Slovak Television Options

    Hi,

I want to set up my apartment in Galway with the main Slovak tv channels for my girlfriend.

I want to know what my options are. It seems that a satellite dish is my only option but I would prefer an internet based option if available.

Does anyone know any channel bundles you can subscribe to online or otherwise how else I can get set up... I currently have UPC in the apartment so perhaps I may be able to get something using the UPC box??

I'm happy to pay a subscription or invest in a dish and/or other equipment if necessary but it would be great to get an idea of what options are available!!

Thanks for the reply! So can I take it that satellite is the only option then? If so what kind of hardware will I need? ie dish size, receiver etc. and what kind of cost am I looking at?

Ive had a bit of experience setting these up here in Mayo/West Ireland. The Thor 1west beams here are on the marginal side, even with a 1.1m dish. During good fine weather the channels are strong, but any kind of percip decreases signal a lot. If its just the main National channels (Sky link) your best bet is the bunch on Astra 3 at 23.5, they are very strong. An 80cm dish should be ample for them.

Yes the main channels would do and looking at the link brian_gall85 posted it looks like Markiza is included on Astra 3. I saw on some other posts that people were having difficulty with this one in particular do you know if this is the case or not with Astra 3?

Also, are you aware of any good dish installers in the area that could supply and fit the dish?

I get about 80+ percent quality on a 1 metre dish (based in IOM). The way the Europe Wide footprint of this sat is it should not be to different even as far further west as you are. Obviously if using on a fixed dish you will have to make up your mind what you want to centre it on i.e if you want Sky as well it may as well to centre on 23E and have the second lnb ofset on 28E. It its a motorised dish its less problematic. Not much clear there so you will need a legit UPC card.

I would agree (with one of the posts above) you will need at least a 80cm and probably to get the two sats a 90cm dish.

    Cheers

Im getting it here on 11.836 H on Astra 3 at 95% signal. Now im getting Astra 3 on an off set 1.1m dish. Its aligned to Astra 1 at 19 east so the Astra 3 lnb is slightly offset. I know when i installed a 1.1m dish for someone on Thor at 1west, it was a marginal signal.

So it looks like Astra 3 is the way to go... I'm gonna head to O'Connors in galway and check out prices for a dish and receiver! Thanks for the help guys!

If it's just basic free channels then I can't fault the Openbox range - HD for only €75

Online buying may be a better option.
