    Pardon my ignorance.

But if I was to drop my Sky subscription and get one of these FTA cards would I still be able to record the FTA channels on my Sky + HD box?

    Thanks.

    No, I'm afraid not.

OK thanks for the information. Looks like I'll have to go the whole hog and get a Humax box / Freesat setup if I want to ditch Sky.

    Thanks again.

Not sure about a HD box but what channels do you get if you remove the card

If you still recieve the "free" ones get any old smart card turn it upside down and insert it, you'll get a card read error on all subscription channels
and the box will default back to the uk settings

Nice one, I'll try that after the rugby :)

That trick only works with non HD boxes, the HD box caches the Irish EPG and there's no way of reverting to a UK one without a UK card.

Balls, I have an old blue irish sky card. Is there anything I can do with that?

Throw it in the bin, the Irish cards put scrambled versions of a lot of the FTA channels on the EPG :(

    Hi gtg60

From the advert descriptions, the blue card appears to be far superior?...why is it €10 cheaper?

I have an Irish sub and an Amstrad HD box....would it matter which card I chose?

Believe it or not there are about 5 different types of cards and basically cards that work for the 'card trick' do not give you the full list of channels available if you have no sub. I always ask people questions before selling them a card to advise them on what's best for them.
    I'll PM you now.
