    Hi,
I have just commenced my self build project for a dwelling house The site is stoned up ready for a Raft Foundation. I was thinking of putting the radon barrier under the raft and before i make the mounds so at least the barrier will be flat and not up and down over the mounds. Anyone have any wisdom to share? advice required

What 'mounds' are you referring to?

If you can keep the barrier flat it's certainly easier to joint it. It's vital to maintain continuity in the barrier out as far as the external wall.

You also need to consider where the sump and extraction pipework are going to go, aswell as any vertical vent you might choose to take up off it in the future.

With respect you sound like you don't know what you are doing. A raft construction will typically comprise concrete over isolation membrane over insulation over radon membrane over blinding over well compacted hardcore which must contain at least 1 sump per 200m2 connected to a duct leading to somewhere outside the building footprint.

Radon can collect in any pockets left under the radon membrane which must be installed by persons who understand this. It must be lapped and sealed at construction joints and all services penetrations sealed and it must be laid continuously out to the the outer face of the external wall.

If all of this does not make perfect sense to you - hire a competent contractor.
