Has anybody bought from Kamera Express?

My daughter is looking for the Canon 550D at the moment and came across this website.

    http://www.kamera-express.nl/product/canon-eos-550d-ef-s-18-55mm-f-3-5-5-6-is-ii/

They are looking for €535 + €20 postage

Cheapest I have seen otherwise is £536 on Amazon -£30 cashback

The cheapest I have seen it in a shop is €699 - €35 cashback

The 600D is only €30 extra. I am relying on google translate but there appears to be a Canon 2yr warranty with it. Has anybody bought from them before? Information re customer service is a bit scarce.

Not heard of them but I may have heard of amazon ;)

Surely for peace and mind and the tiny difference in price that the amazon is by far the common sense option.

Never heard of Kamera Express but have bought loads, including Canon 60D, from Simply Electronics. They have the 550D + 18-55 kit lens for €539.95 with free delivery. Link here: http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=9872 Not everyone loves them but I have bought many things and only problem I have found is that they can be slower than promised.

You might be right about the peace of mind but just because I hadn't heard of them doesn't mean no one else has (although in this instance that seems to be the case).

Even with the cashback (€35 and €60) it is a saving of €75 on the 550d and €100 on the 600d which is hardly tiny. Buyer is young and has been saving for over a year for this.

Thanks for the suggestion re Simply Electronics but its seems that they are fine until you have a problem. I found some reviews for Kamera Express and main complaint is that items are not always in stock but these are Dutch reviews. Was more interested in finding out how easy it is to sort out issues as an international customer. BTW they are authorised Canon dealers.

ps sorry original post should have been put in 'buying advice...' sticky

Give Ian Kerr a shout. He's a popular seller here and is very reliable and generally good on price.

    I bought my 60D and Sigma 30mm F1.4 from Onestop-Digital.

They have the Japanese edition of the 550D for €536.27 with free shipping. Only difference is the branding (:

They're in Hong Kong, and both times I ordered from them took 2 days to FedEx. They also reimburse any VAT/import duty if you have to pay (but both times I didn't)

I worked out on ur original post the difference as 555 vs 566---> 11 euro difference.....

Thanks all for the suggestions but I think I would prefer to go with a European seller. The cost of registered post to HK/China if I needed to return is fairly high.

Don't think I will be going with the Amazon deal I double checked the price after AnimalRights post and this is the price I got - admittedly using Amazons terrible exchange rate - but I had forgotten about the extra vat for Irish customers -

    £536 + 13 extra vat = £549 X Amazon currency converter = €692

At that price would rather buy Irish for the bit extra.
I will let her have a think about and she can keep saving in the meantime.

    Thanks

Well Ian, who I linked to above is Scottish, so there's no additional VAT etc.

No problem, I just thought you were using the same exchange rate as my daughter as it was near parity when she started saving ('what eurozone crisis?')

I had also checked Kerso as he has a great reputation only the 600d body with lens available separately so worked out a bit too expensive. Will definitely bear him in mind when she is looking for the inevitable lens upgrade.

Had decided to take a punt on the 600D with lens kit at €590 (advance on birthday money) on the Dutch site only to discover it is now out of stock
online :( (although still available in their Amsterdam Superstore).

Buyer can keep saving or hope it comes back in stock at the same price. Appreciate all the help and will no doubt be back for advice when she eventually gets her camera.
