Great limerick run!!! advice please

    hi, going to do the 10k in Limerick on the May bank hol... havent any training in yet...but friends are doing it so my hubbie and I have joined up... would love to get into jogging/running... did two 10ks last year nothing since....lack of motivation since I got married... i have got lazy and put up a stone since....
    I joined gym 2 weeks ago and back doing some cardio with personal trainer... i dont drink or smoke... My prob is i am lacking in motivation to really really get going !!!!
    Am not applying myself 100% to it... i need a kick in the a***!
    anyone able to give me advice please???
    Am an untoned size 12.. i refuse to buy new clothes until i tone up....i am partial to heavy/weigh in hips and upper thighs... do you find running tones these areas up after a while???

    I just completed a 5km run this week.my first ever.
    And im hoping to do the 10km great limerick run.

    I have just got myself a membership for JJB in Limerick aswell.

    It's not 10k, it's 6 miles I think. Stay to the back at the start so as the runners aren't held up.

    Follow a 10k training program that gets you in the habit of running regularly, at an easy pace, and builds up the distance slowly. Like this one.
    Contact your local running clubs. There's a good chance they'll have training groups for people doing the same race.

    Try listening to some music or podcasts when you're on the road to either push you, or at least keep you from getting bored. Run outside as much as you can, treadmills are boring as hell.

    If you want to lose weight, diet is crucial. Calories in must be less than calories out. Have a look at tyre stickie threads on the Diet and Nutrition Forum but take some of the advice with a pinch of salt, there are a LOT of fad dieters on there.

    If you are serious about it, then the best single thing you could do is find a running buddy. On the days you don't feel like running, your buddy will encourage you to get off the sofa, and vice versa !
