Braces

I saw a dentist today. Its been a while, well two years and only needed some fillings.

I saw a different dentist but he's the first dentist that has ever mentioned braces. I have seen loads of dentists over the years. Loads? Well, the dentists when i was younger and maybe 5 during my 20s.

What surprised me most was all these dentists has never ever mentioned braces. Unless they mentioned to my parents when i was younger.

I have a couple of crooked teeth on the top. Im so used to them but i have always wanted them straightened. The dentist mentioned that i could get them done anytime, even in my 30s and 40s, so im a bit happy with that information. Im definately getting them done sometime. There's no rush with it really.

But the price of them. The dentist mentioned they can be between 3000-5000 euro. Thats expensive and i don't think i can ever spend that much on braces.

I have heard people going out foreign for dental treatment because its cheaper. What about going foreign for braces?

You will have to go about 15 to twenty times over a few years, foreign travel will not work for braces ( it doesn't work for Any dental treatment but that another issue)

Did you ever tell the dentist that you wanted braces or that you were unhappy with the crooked teeth?? Braces are largely cosmetic- no-one needs braces for their health... Some dentists don't like pointing out obvious things to patients like their crowded teeth, kinda like a doctor telling an obese person that they are fat... some patients get a little sensitive when you start pointing out flaws that they were happy with....

A number of patients at our practice smoke 20cigarettes a day, a packet is something like €9 ?! 9x7=€63 a week,x52 weeks in a year,x(on average) 10-15 years, the option of quitting-for financial if not health reasons- is a non runner!
Approach the braces situation with the same tenacity as smokers do their cigarette fix,&you'll be funding treatment in no time, with enough money left over for a holiday too:D

Am going to get braces myself, just need to get the finances together. Have gotten some preparatory work done, so have had a deep clean with a gum specialist. My issue is that my gums are receeding, they have been all my adult life, overzealous tooth cleaning unfortunately, but will the braces make them worse?
Also I need to get 3 teeth out (to allow room for teeth to move) under sedation as the roots are very long. There are 2 on one side and 1 on the other, can I get them all done on the one day? Sedation will be expensive so a once off would be better.
