It seems films has taken a backlot in my local one...

Greeting cards, 99s, vino, play dough, disney paraphenalia, the usual
eateries all seem to be taking up major space?!?!

Never mind the huge video games section.

I think it's great that the local is trying to keep themselves going.

But their 4.60 a film is pushing things i think considering what
you can get elsewhere alot cheaper.

I miss those so called mom and pop stores though.

They used to have at least a handful of gems where you could'nt find elsewhere.

    :(

Oh well, roll with the times.

Is anybody else's local xtra keeping up like mine?!?!

    lol, renting movies, how quaint.

really though xtravision have been moving away from rental for years, they make more money from games and selling dvds and blurays these days, there was talk of them stopping being a rental store altogether at one stage.

the reason hey have a huge video games section is because games are a bigger industry than movies now.

I bought my PS Vita in xtravision and asked was there any chance of throwing in the pre-order pack since I was buying the vita bundle and an extra game on top of that. The chap rang head office and they said no. So they can go fcuk themselves from now on.

I was in Xtravision the other week to use their printer and the place was actually jam packed with people renting DVDs! I genuinely thought that nobody did that anymore.

Someone in front of me in the queue rented two blu rays and bought some maltesers and it cost them almost €15! They have a game section and sell consoles and stuff too, but the majority of their floor seems to still be DVDs and Blu Rays

Yeah, lol. I remember renting a MegaDrive before getting my own. That brings back memories. I can't say I miss it though. They used to be in bits!

Obviously, but it's got me wondering will they adhere to the sale of
alcohol tomorrow with their wine sales?!?!

    ;)

If not there's gonna be half of wicklow in there all day and not just for the renting!

    :D

Xtravision in Enniscorthy still does a roaring trade in DVD rentals plus it's the only place in the town with a decent selection of games. It's one of the few that's bucking the trend.
Personally I can't remember the last time I rented a dvd there although I have bought a few games, sometimes you can pick up some decent bargains.

Is that at €5 a movie?

Don't know the rental prices,as I said,I don't rent dvds anymore but a huge amount of people still do.I'd say the fact that the local cinema closed down has something to do with it.The place will be packed tomorrow.
Plus the amount of people in the town who just use the internet for facebook means that they don't get their movies online either legally or otherwise so Xtravision is their port of call.

I still rent movies from Xtravision nearly every week.

Costs €4.35 for a new release, whereas it costs much more on iTunes - Moneyball is currently €9.99 and Tower Heist is €13.99.

Plus, I'm helping to support local jobs, which is a bonus :)

Those are purchase prices, not rentals.

Ah, fair enough. Still more expensive than Xtravision, though.

Havent been to mine in ages either. The advent of a faster internet connection and Netflix has put the final nail in that coffin.

Im more of a pc gamer too, so I never really make use of the games rental in there. I have strolled in on many occasions though and picked up a cheap pre-owned game that wasnt so extortionately priced that I waited to go home and get on Amazon. Even in this digital age, its nice to go into a shop and come out with a shiny game box.

i was taking a nosey at the hbo films on sky earlier at a mates and i noticed that they've come down in price quite a bit since i encountered them last.

between 3.49 and 3.99 for the latest numbers now for rental in the shops is undercutting xtravision by a margin. and all for not getting up off your backside in front of the telly.

Can't really blame xtra vision selling other stuff to make money.

    - Downloading has really effected movie rentals.
    - Its even cheaper to rent online with the likes of Netflix etc.
    - But even then why pay xtra vision, what 6 euro, to rent a movie if you can go into HMV and buy the movie for a similiar price. Look at the hang over 2 on dvd. Its something like 10 euro to buy brand new.

    I still like renting them.
Lots of people still can't be arsed with the internet and credit/debit cards, don't want to buy or rob films, or don't want to sign up to a monthly contract.
