I let out weanlings a couple of weeks ago and some have them have lost a lot of hair over the winter. I cannot understand because i treated them for lice when housing and they did not seem to be scratching at all while in . Could there be any other cause than lice , and is there anything i can do to improve the hair growing back as i hope to sell a few in a couple of weeks and even though they are in great shape they look bad and i am sure this could effect the price

Could be ringworm(which is a fungal disease) - a dose of it doing the rounds in housed cattle ATM

maybe they are just losing their winter coat if they have been in the shed.

Don t think it is ringworm as i had one with that and treated her and she turned out fine .Doubt its a mineral deficiency either as they are fed meal .

maybe the warm weather triggered the shedding of the winter coat ?

Had a lovely Limousin calf and about 3 weeks after he was born he started losing all his hair. Called the vet and he told me it was a zinc deficiency.

I got mineral supplement called colovet. Gave it to him for 5 days straight and hair is coming back slowly but surely.

ive a 30 month in calf heifer and she loosing a patch of hair on her side of shoulder about the size if a cigarette box.. and another smaller one further back on her belly I don't think its ringworm as not circular or anywhere near head/ eyes etc

she got ivomec super 3-4 weeks ago so id think that would cover mange etc, couldn't see her being deficient in anything but I know without a blood test that is unknown..

it looks kind of scabby and I sprayed it with alamycin twice now every other day and im hoping itll make a difference.. I know if its fungal id be better trying to cut off the air to it.. im basically not sure what it is and wondering what other skin issues are there apart from ringworm?
