Under the popular assumption that Ireland will fare pretty well in the zombie apocalypse due to it being an island with a fairly low and sparse population. Plus the islands ability to support many more people with food than the current population what is the likelihood Ireland would be invaded?

Maybe not even by another nation, naval fleets with no country to go to may well be the most powerful groups left after the downfall. One America fleet could probably take control of Ireland.

Maybe Europe and other places could see Ireland as a place worth fighting to the bitter end for, making this island the final battle ground for the living and ruining our chance of survival.

Hmm... rainy Ireland is a long haul for American ships, sunny Bahama islands are a lot closer.
As for Europe, its possible but I don't see them being any more organised or any more of a threat than other small groups of survivors that would naturally form

As the Brits discovered, its one thing to invade Ireland, and something else entirely to hold it. :D Yes there are many military forces with the capability to destroy our defences and infrastructure but a couple of things:

You can't invade a country with a navy, you need significant transport fleets to do that. Not many countries have those any more, even during the Falklands, the UK had to use civilian cruise liners for troop transport. Lots of navies can project force, but occupation needs many, many boots on the ground.

Also if you look at the larger picture, these forces will be engaged primarily with the protection and retrieval of their own countries and populations. By the time the zombie apocalypse finishes up, there won't be much left of either, and given the rescue operations they'd need to do a significant toll would have been taken on naval resources too, with the possible exception of nuclear subs etc, which by the way would make an awesome movie.

So we're left with three possibilities really, either the core of a historically imperialistic state like Russia or the UK retains enough capability to use Ireland as its last line of defence, in which case there is an organised conquest and extended resistance with the usual result, or we have rag-tag renegade fleets using the country as a resupply base like pirates or Vikings. The third and most likely possibility is the place being turned into a giant refugee camp with a quarantine fleet anchored off Dublin, Cork and Galway. I could imagine the remnants of foreign navies actively helping to protect and patrol Irish waters in that case, to maintain supplies and keep the civilian population supportive.

Thats assuming the zombie apocalyse passes over though, no reason to think it might hit the UK and miss Ireland.

As long as the virus wasn't airborne and no carriers ever got in the country at all, we could miss the apocalypse.

    That'd be no fun though.

Between tourists, the emigrant diaspora, and EU migrant workers, I'd say Ireland is probably more vulnerable than most. Dublin would be gone for sure, ironically Cork might end up being the capital after all. :D
