I am looking to buy a laptop for my mother, not much requirements, it will be used for work with MS office, internet and watching DVDs.

I want to read up on/research processors as every time I buy they are changing so quickly. I don't want anything fancy but longevity would be great as she won't be looking to upgrade for a few years.

Any sites or info would be great.

A 2nd generation Core i3 processor should be fine, you'll find such laptops selling from €450. If you can wait a few weeks, the 3d generation of Core iX processors (Ivy Bridge) will be hitting the shelves very soon. In any case, stay clear of AMD E-Series CPUs as well as anything Celeron/Pentium.

or wait for ivy as Torqay said where it'll be an i3 followed by a -3, they're still a fair few months off though, could be june.
