Maternity Benefit and PRSI contributions

    Hi,

I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant, due the start of August and working part-time. I started working in this job at the beginning of July 2011, before which I was unemployed from March 2010-July 2011.

There are a number of criteria for being eligible for maternity benefit, one of which I hopefully will meet- 39 weeks PRSI contributions in the 12 months before starting maternity leave. However it states on the leaflet for maternity benefit that PRSI contributions must be either class A or E.

So far I have accumulated 33 weeks at Class A, but have since reduced my hours in work as I was finding it too much trying to balance work, pregnancy and full time college, and am now currently at Class J for PRSI (I have about 4 weeks at Class J so far). So based on this it appears that my contributions at Class J won't be counted- does that seem correct?

If so, it seems my only option will be to increase my hours back up to my previous amount for 6 weeks, in order to get 6 more Class A contributions. This will be tough going but I'll do it in order to qualify for maternity benefit, as we really need the money. Does anyone know would PRSI contributions for holiday pay count towards it? I think I may be entitled to a week or 2 holiday pay by now, need to check this out with my employer.

Also- the form states I must submit the form 6 weeks before I intend to begin my maternity leave, does anyone know will the PRSI contributions during this 6 weeks between submitting the form and going on maternity leave count, or will they only take into account contributions made up til the time the form is processed?

Thanks so much for any help, trying to find out what you're entitled to can be so confusing! Sorry for the long post!
