I found a lot of it was trial and error. Went out a few times with a few friends and we got some good results.

We done some old buildings, derilict buildings, church ruins and headstones. There was always a few of us and we had decent torchs and set up our cameras on tripods and done some test shots and worked from there. If a few of ye are doing it it can be a right bit of crack.
This was taken in an old graveyard in Lusk Co Dublin

@eddyk - I only recently started experimenting with light painting but was lucky to find someone from Dublin on flickr that is really good at it and had lots of tips on what to use and what not to use. As great as all that advice was I'd say go have a look on youtube for light painting tutorials because there are so many of them and a lot of them show the gear they use and how to make it. A lot of people just do orbs and the like but there are so many other things you can do and a lot of the tools are quite cheap to make.

    My favorite Irish light painter.

    My Favorite International light painter.
