Secure storage of bike in garage - best way?

Thinking of buying a bike, but was wondering if there is anything available to secure it in my garage which would sop a thief taking it quickly?

I know a thief with some time will get though any defences, but I was thinking that maybe a large U-bolt put into the wall, then use a good quality bike chain to lock bike frame to that?

How do you store your bike, or do you just take a chance and hope its not stolen?

I have my bikes hanging on the wall of the garage and I used the following parts from Halfords to secure them:

The cable attaches to the 1st mount, passes through the frame and is padlocked at the 2nd mount.

If they want the bikes badly, they'll get them. I'm hoping it'll slow them down though.

That cable isn't going to slow them down though!

If you are really concerned, concrete something into the floor and chain the bike to it with a heavy chain. Put the chain inside an old inner tube to prevent it scratching the paintwork.

Someone would want to be quite determined to take the bikes.

You have to laugh (but possibly cry if you've bought it already) at the prices they charge for a bit of steel http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=8496
You could get something just as suitable for the job at a co-op or creamery store for less than a tenner.
Or even better, get a length of 20mm threaded bar, get it bent into a U thread a couple of bolts onto it, drill a couple of holes and chemical set it into the conc.

Certainly didn;t pay that much. Think I paid c.15 euro for mine in B&Q, (tempered steel, tempered bolts with ball bearing inserts for the bolt tops) - which was certainly worth it rather than messing with getting steel bars bent etc.

Indeed, this is why I keep my children locked in the shed at night.

Alot of stolen to order bikes in the tri scene in all seriousness. Taken from inside houses - computers, digital cameras, cheaper bikes all left. Top end bikes and race wheels were disappearing at an awful rate a few months ago.

As co-incidence would have it I did get up in the middle of the night last night as I thought someone was trying to rob the eldest!
Then i just realised it was the next door neighbours 30 month old crying out on the road at 1am. No thud-guards or windows locks there i tells ya.
