Going rate for doing a teenage disco?

Just wondering how much would be the going rate for doing a teenage disco?

The disco in question requires me to drive 50 miles away (100 mile round trip). Supply my full PA system (2 x 1000 watt rms bass bins and 2 x 500 watt tops) Laptop, decks, LED lighting effects, laser etc.

The disco is on from 9 until 12 once a month. What would you charge or what should someone expect to get?

For the record I have been Djing almost 3 years and have done over 100 gigs, including teenage discos, 21st's, weddings, clubs etc..

Surely you should know yourself if you've been doing gigs 3 years? Regular price for a local/close by gig then factor in travel expenses.

sorry, been a while since i posted, i forgot how unhelpful everyone was!

I know how much i charge, obviously, its just always good to get opinions about what is the going rate, am i getting a very good price or not enough.

anyway just wanted to know because i have been doing these discos for the past 7 months or so. and im been given (i wasn't asked for what i wanted, it seemed to be a set price) 150 quid a night. I just think its shocking money for all things considered. just wanted to know would i be right in saying that its **** money and if so, how much should i be getting.

I'd be charging in the region of 350euro.

You have to factor in the time its going to take you to get there (50 miles would take about 50mins- 1hr?! depends on route, traffic etc) and another 50mins - 1hr back. Add your petrol, tolls etc

Hire of Lighting and Sound Equipment, setting up time etc

Hire of experienced DJ for 3 hours

if your a professional and have the right gear why charge cowboy money? You see "mobile djs" all the time charging ridiculous rates, most recently, I seen an ad for an "experienced mobile dj" for 50 euro including equipment etc I could just imagine how s**t he'd be.

anyway OP, 350 is what I'd charge:)

What figure did u have in mind OP?

if u feel there's a chance of getting more gigs from this gig then I would do it a bit cheaper

I am already doing them, since last september, and have only been getting 150 a night for doing them. That was the price i was given, thats what was paid to the last dj so thats what i get, even though its terrible money. I do them once a month. Only reason i took it at the time was because i was out of work then and was stuck for money, so 150 was better than not getting 150 if u get where im coming from.

i normally charge 180-220 ish per night for a local gig depending on how longs it for, late bar etc. so was just wondering was i getting shafted for the 150 a night thing i am currently getting. reckon im either gonna up my price or else tell them where they can stick it haha

Apologies, I wasn't trying to be condescending. As DylanMC says, there's a lot of cowboys out there doing gigs for 50-80 quid for full mobiles. I'd be looking for 250-300 for trucking base bins around, and travelling that distance. But it's a kids disco, so the organisers probably aren't pushed on DJ quality, once he has a few lights and sounds they're set. Ask for more, but wouldn't be surprised if you only managed 30 quid extra out of them, but never undersell yourself. If you know you're a quality DJ compared to some of the eejits out there, and you can well afford to not have this gig, then say it to them that they need to meet you half way on this one. If I could work locally for 220, or a distance gig for 150, I know which one I'd be picking.

I'd agree with the figures being thrown around, on par. But remember your still charging €150, which if it took you 5 hours, its €30 an hour. There are some professional jobs that don't earn that type of money. Two of those a week, and your almost clear of the dole queue. Just to put some perspective on it as i've met some DJ's who claim they won't get out of bed for less than €400. Don't over sell oneself ;)

If it was me OP, I'd be somewhere in the €200 range.

€ 250-€ 300 IMO, especially given the travel involved. No doubt they could get somebody cheaper but if they want you specifically then stand your ground. I'm not particularly expensive but no way in the world would I do that gig you described for € 150. Alot of DJ's bull***t about the fees they get, most guys telling you they won't get off the couch for less than € 400 are probably getting more like € 250 or € 300, but € 150 is definately too low.

Considering you're only getting 150 now, theres no way they're going to jump to 300, even though thats probably what the gigs is worth(certainly 250 anyways).

You should tell them that with travel expenses it is becoming unfeasible and try and get it up to 200. I don't know what you're driving but surely you're spending a good few quid on petrol for each of these gigs.

I don't do teenage discos but if I was providing the gear you were for a college ball, for example, and even if it was quite close to home, i'd be talking at least 250 if not higher.

I don't understand how you can say that you're getting shafted if you agreed the price beforehand. It's up to you to value your work and tell people what you want. A proper example of getting shafted is going to a gig and then being charged €7 for a pint! You're a captive audience in that scenario and you've no choice at that stage if you want a drink.

€200 to €300 would seem more like the going rate, but you'd have to ask yourself if you'd be willing to lose the €150 if you try and stand your ground and ask for more. But even with getting €150, you would have to take out your petrol which has to be at least €30 or €40? So along with the usual wear and tear of your equipment, is a night's work worth €100? How much do you value your time?

i reckon 150 is about ryt..cause ur guaranteed that amount every month...i do one for that amount im experienced, have good equipment but lets face it entertaining underage kids for 3 hours isnt hard work..anyone whos talkin about 350 is off there game and will never find themselves with a regular paid gig..because at the end of the day the organisers WILL just get someone cheaper..
