Something like centre parcs in Ireland?

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any good places for a trip away with extended family in Ireland that are similar to Centre Parcs or Forest Holidays in the UK?

It's not a particularly young family (only 2 of the 'kids' are actually still kids, with 2 more teenagers and everyone else all grown up) so stuff to do for adults and teenagers within striking distance would be important.

Ideally looking to keep costs down, so some of the places like Delphi are looking rather expensive.

    Thanks

Trabolgan. Owned by Pontins, just outside Cork.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Had forgotten about trabolgan alright. Had a look at its website but it seems like a lot of the stuff is very kid-orientated and the group composition is 12 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 kids so I'm not sure if it would be appropriate or is there a lot to do for adults? Ideally looking for somewhere where we can go cycling, hiking, canoeing etc.

We went to Trabolgan a number of years ago when the children were younger, and imho it would not be the place for the amount of adults that you have.

What you could do, is to look at staying in self catering accommodation but within hotel grounds - so you would have use of all the hotel facilities but not pay hotel prices. Look at dreamireland.com or discoverireland.ie, a huge amount of hotels these days have built self catering accommodation, we have stayed in self catering in Castle Leslie (great for horseriding & fishing) and currently we are looking at Foto Island resort and a few other places

Just back from Trobalgon. i have to say it was ok.
    The rooms were basic enough.
The activities for our little one were really limited as it was more for the upper age group (1-4).
The staff were friendly and helpful.
One piece of advice I would give is take food with you as when you start buying stuff the price really builds up.

    Thank You
