Decent Dublin location for a group shot (20+ people)?

    Hey all,

Not the most familiar in the world with Dublin, but I was just wondering if I could ask if anyone knows of a decent location where I could do a large group shot, with about 22-23 people (family portrait)?

I'm going to initially go ahead and guess that any area that is suitable would be an OPW site? If so, how are they to deal with (I've only ever emailed them once, and they never replied, so...).

I've heard Malahide Park is nice, but I've never actually been. Would that do (I google imaged it and it looks the part, alright. I'm guessing OPW again?).

Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of anywhere. Preferably somewhere easy enough to reach, too.

If city centre is convenient, how about the garden in Dublin Castle? There is an elevated viewing position overlooking the garden and you could get a nice view from above shot of the group.

Steps of the monument in the Phoenix Park.

Outdoor, preferably, Leche (though if there area any usable indoor locations I would definitely consider them).

Dublin Castle garden... I'm fairly sure I've been there before but not sure of the elevated position you're referring to. Must take a look on Google. Could be worth a punt.

    Cheers gentlemen :)

+1 for Dublin Castle garden. This picture is taken from the elevated part where you come into the garden

Can anyone tell me, then, as I'm not familiar with the Dublin Gardens, personally, do you have to pay to access them, or are there any rules regarding photography or anything I should be aware of?

There is no charge to visit these gardens. I'm sure they are used to getting large groups in there so yours wouldn't be out of the ordinary. The only issue you might have is other visitors in the vacinity of your shoot. The Chester Beatty library is just beside this garden so you might have people in and out of there.

Maybe if you have a look at the area first yourself and see if it suits your requirements.

    Hey Guys,

Cheers for all the replies, so far. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately it's not feasible to check the place out in advance. I suggested Ardgillan Castle in Balbriggan to them (I've been there before, but forgot all about it) and they like that suggestion. Still gonna think a little more about it though. (I obviously also suggested Dublin Castle's Gardens, but they seemed warmer to the Balbriggan location).

I like the photos of Dublin Castle Gardens, and if they're handy they'd be great, but I'm not fond of that kind of celtic-y design that's running through them. Nice for a landscape, but I reckon it could be very distracting in a portrait photograph?
