laptop and monitor not working together

I have an HP elitebook 8560W running a NVIDIA Quadro 2000M display adapter with native resolution of 1920x1080, windows 7.

I have hooked up a Samsung wide screen monitor with a native res of 1920x1080. This monitor worked first time with my previous Win7 laptop.

But with the 8560W it's giving me problems. It says that 1024x768 is recommended and the highest it goes is to 1280x1024 but the ratio is off.
I have installed the samsung driver but it doesn't work.
1920x1080 is not available under the Quadro Modes.

Any ideas where I go from here?

/Edit: I've managed to get the res working but the dialog boxes, text etc are very very soft, blurry really.
