TV3 on Sky : INCORRECT ASPECT RATIO

I thought I'd start a thread on this as nobody else has . . .

This is the THIRD day now that TV3 has been 4:3 on Sky - widescreen programming squashed.

They finally fixed 3e a few weeks ago only for TV3 itself to now have the same (3e) problem.

    Saorview is unaffected

How long will it take them to notice this ??? - It took them years to fix 3e.

I've sent them an email but have not yet received a reply -- I'm not holding my breath . . .

the aspect has always been fine for me on tv3 and e3, occasionally there is a hiccup with e3 where after ads it takes a few seconds to switch back, but thats it.

Same for me. Adjusted picture setting in system setup on sky box for picture mode & working fine ever since.

Wrong for me here. Midweek is in 4:3 on Sky. TV3 Saorview is still in 16:9 as it should be. It's not just me as it goes to 16:9 upon changing to RTÉ Two or any other widescreen channel.

    Amstrad DRX890 HD box.

Midweek was fine here, in 16:9 (Amstrad HD) - the very same as on Saorview. Vincent Browne was also 16:9 last night. 3e has always been correct here too.

Is your TV hard set to 16:9 though? Does it pillarbox 4:3 content on non-HD channels?

Yes, TV set to 16:9. It pillarboxes 4:3 contents on HD & SD channels (as with The Fresh Prince of Bel Air now on Viva - ch 357).

By the way, years ago when Sky News broadcast Irish news at 7 & 10pm the aspect ratio of the channel always changed for the duration of same on an old Sony TV I had.

Yes, TV set to 16:9. It pillarboxes 4:3 contents on HD channels, 4:3 content is stretched to full screen on SD channels.

That's why you're not noticing it. In that mode the TV ignores the 4:3 flag and stretches the SD picture anyway.

No, I was wrong, see my amended comment. Go to Ch 357 now (after the ad break) - have you pillar box ?

Yes but not fully. Looks like VIVA are slightly cropping it. It's in the broadcast.

You were right – the old 4:3 shows that are on GOLD are stretched to fill my TV screen

TV3 is stretched on my sky+ as well. All the other 998 stations are fine! Just happened this week. Must have been that new intern pressed the wrong button.

It seems to have been fixed just this minute it went off the air on Sky for a few moments and came back right on 4:3

It was stuck in 16:9 for a while today (Judge Judy was stretched widescreen) and then went off air (Blue Screen) for about 15 mins . . .

-- Are there any 4:3 progs on tonight so we can check if it's working correctly ?

It's gone wrong again - spoke too soon

Absolutely ridiculous! Can they not see their own output? I went to my aunt's earlier and found her watching ITV1HD - she normally can't be bothered going into "other channels" but said she had to because TV3 has a "wonky picture"

It seems to be fixed again --- hope I don't jinx it like the last time :D

Yes, seems ok tonight. Bizarre that 3e is fixed after years of it being 4:3, and then suddenly TV3 over indulges in crash diets.

It seems it's not "fixed" but permanently 16:9

--- Still that's better than the way it's been for the past month . . .
