Dirty thread title, excuse the pun :p

This is a serious question tho, I'm currently using a thick black Judo Gi for training with the club. When I wash it, I ain't getting the best results...

I was told to wash it on a 30degree cotton wash. when it drys, its like cardboard... is this the norm?

Has anyone got any advice or tips from there own experiences?

    Thanks.

    Try fabric softener.

Don't trust either of them with my washing... stuff shrinks or goes missing

Yeah when it dries it's going to be like cardboard. If you're looking for a softener I recommend a brand called HTFU.

Also I use this oxy-somethignorother stuff for my white gis, and I think it does a bit better at getting it clean. Not as amazing as the ads claim though.

The main thing though is not to put it in the tumble dryer.

HTFU? Is it available in Tesco yeah?

I may try it out. I never tumble dry it, clothes line in decent weather and radiator on wet nights.

You would have to ask them in-store.

I find that a liberal dosing of sweat & tears softens it right up.

Bit of blood works well also.

Theyre taking the piss out of you mate.

When you hang dry a gi it usually dries stiffer than if you tumble dry it, in my opinion a stiffer gi is desirable as it makes it harder for your opponent to get good grips.

I don't think you understand, you wash it at a low heat like any other cotton fabric, no fabric softener and then hang till dry

I think that's very low heat to be washing your karate suit. I guess the modern detergents are still active at that temperature but I'd prefer to wash at least 40 for coloured or 60 for whites make sure the thing is getting cleaned not freshened up.

drying it on the radiator / clothes horse will help stiffen the collars to get you a slightly more effective but less comfortable suit.

Is this to stiffen it, or shrink it down to size, or what?
