Earliest evidence of cooking found in Africa?

It's interesting. Eating cooked food would have led to changes in the digestive system. If we could isolate and date the genes underpinning these changes we could estimate when this change in diet occurred and see how it lines up with finds like this.

Good plan, plus as a quicker gauge having a look at the teeth is also informative. They'll show dietary changes fairly well and wont be as reliant on sometimes genetic "clocks" that can be open to accusations of supposition. I'd also look at pathology in bones to see if parasites cooking would destroy are present in some of the bones. Going on that IMH I'd put fire back to maybe 1.5 million years.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Sadly, due to the immediate creation of the role of food critic after this first cooking, this must be regarded as an evolutionary step backward.
