Polish Films?

Anyone got some recommendations on some good polish films? I've watched all the decalogue by Krzysztof Kieślowski and a few other of his works(they had subtitles). Post away!:)

If you haven't seen them, Kieślowski's "Three Colours" series.

"Zmruz oczy"(2002)and "Sztuczki"(2007) directed by Andrzej Jakimowski, especially "Sztuczki".

Trying to remember the name of a film set in a run-down building - will edit when I remember it.

Ahah - "Reserwat" directed by Lukasz Palkowski - I enjoyed it a lot.

Seksmisja (1984) Polish comedy which might have a slight resemblance to Sleeper.
Różyczka (2010)

Tajemnica Twierdzy Szyfrów (2007) — actually a tv series (set in 1944), but available on dvd with english sub-titles.

I loved that series. We used to watch it with our lecturer in Trinity in a Polish film club.

You should check out EDI ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338949/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 ) . It's so sad, but realistic, also the best polish song ever in end titles. I have it on dvd with english subtitles so you should be able to find it as well.

We got someone to buy and post us season 1-4 of Czas Honoru, it was much cheaper than buying online.
A good film is jestem bogiem. It tells the story of rap group Paktofonika.

Some classic Polish comedies:
Mis (Teddy bear) - can be bought on dvd english subtitled.
Dzien Swira (Day of the wacko) - same director as Nothing funny.
Seksmisja (Sexmission) - good and funny sci-fi comedy.

All really recommended, specially if you want to feel how Poland was in 80's (Mis) or 90's (Day of the wacko)

I don't know the film Arc pod arsenelem, do you mean this one?

FARAON (PHARAOH)

The monumental Polish film Faraon (1966) by the late legendary Polish director Jerzy Kawalerowicz (1922-2007).

The film is based on the famous Polish novel "Faraon" by Bolesław Prus .
Although the story is historically not real one, it remotely echoes some of the historical currents in the late periods of the ancient Egyptian New Kingdom.

The film is characterized by its beautiful scenery and costumes.
It is worth mentioning that the counselor of the costumes and scenery is the great Egyptian director and artist Shady Abdel Salam, who created the most important film that came from Egypt "The Night of Counting the Years" in the late 1960s.

The film 'Faraon' is one of the milestones of the Polish cinema. The scene shown here presents the procession of the pharaoh.
The costumes and designs are inspired by the ancient New Kingdom material.

The music was composed by Adam Walaciński.

The Trilogy is a series of three novels written by the Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz. The series follows dramatized versions of famous events in Polish history, weaving fact and fiction. The first novel, titled With Fire and Sword, chronicles the 17th century Cossack revolt known as the Chmielnicki Uprising. The second book, The Deluge, describes the Swedish invasion of Poland known as The Deluge. The final novel, Fire in the Steppe, follows wars between Poland and the Ottoman Empire in the late 17th century.


The series follows dramatized versions of famous events in Polish history, weaving fact and fiction.

Some editions of "The Deluge" are split into two volumes.

"Fire in the Steppe" was also released as "Pan Michael."

Not a direct recommendation, but can anyone identify this film I'm trying to find again?

It includes a road safety campaign featuring Jesus on posters saying 'Stop!' and a diminishing group of virgins on stilts making a pilgrimage to a town.
I know, it sounds mad. It kind of was. Probably 90s or this century.
