France - Breakfast near Roscoff and best route to La Rochelle?

Will be taking the Brittany Ferry from Cork into Roscoff (again) in a few weeks time, and travelling to La Rochelle.

As the ferry arrives into Roscoff at 7am on a Sunday, is there somewhere that would be open and serve a good breakfast within a 2-3 hour distance from Roscoff?

Also, Can anyone recommend the best route to take (avoiding Toll Roads), and preferably via the coast route instead of inland?

If I remember right there is a town/city/ south of Roscoff called Morlaix (open to correction) where maybe brekky can be had, but if I was you I would be taking breakfast in Roscoff. Not good to travel on an empty stomach (concentration, headaches, hungry!!!). Or have it on the ferry before departing if you have plenty of money. Ferry food can be expensive. Can't help for your trip to La Rochelle as we drove there from Paris. PS: La Rochelle very nice port and town with some beautiful restaurants. Safe travel.
PPS: Try viaMichelin or get a satnav.;)
PPS: Just remembered: There are no tolls on the motorways in Brittany anyway, as far as I know, at least when I travelled last that way there wasn't any - hope this helps

There will be a few restaurants and a bakery or two open in Roscoff at that time. One time we went the ferry was in at 6am due to tides. We got fresh bread and croissants at a bakery that was open at that time. Brewed some tea for Mrs. Satts, heated milk for the baby and brewed some coffee in my plunger, all on a little gas stove on a lovely quiet sunny Sunday morning. Good times. :)

The inland route would be Roscoff, Saint-Brieuc, Rennes, Nantes, La Rochelle. (Quickest). If you go this route, you would be looking at Rennes for breakfast.

The dual carriage way route parallel to the coast would be Roscoff, Quimper, Lorient, Vannes, Nantes, La Rochelle. This route would probably be the best of both worlds, speed of the dual carriageway, but the freedom to vere off to the coast easily if you wish. If you go this route, the city of Quimper(About the size of Cork city) might be a good place to aim for breakfast. If you headed straight there you could be there in an hour and a half from Roscoff. Detour to coast before or after breakfast, 20 mins from Quimper is a lovely small seaside town called Benodet, you might even like to get breakfast here.

Many moons ago we took the coast road from Roscoff and headed south. Lovely trip, good road, loads of great views of sea, cliffs, lighthouses, but it would take you many days to get to your destination. If you do take the coast road you could make for the city of Brest for breakfast.

Sorry to hijack this thread !! Hope you don't mind.

I am looking at bringing the family to La Rochelle also, Can anybody suggest or recommend any nice villa to stay in to sleep up to 8 people ? We are not stuck on villa's but was thinking as there could be 8 of us it makes more sense.

    Any help appreciated !!

Don't know but I would reckon a villa would be v expensive. People we met around there got a mobile on a campsite pretty reasonable. Would one of them do would you reckon and with kids you'd probably have lots of facilities there!!

Thanks for the reply. I guess one of them makes a lot of sense but given the numbers traveling would probably need 2 of them maybe possibly 3 so would we really be saving anything by not going with the villa. Agreed on the facilities and the atmosphere. From what I remember of a campsite from when I was a kid the atmosphere was brilliant.

MMM better decide on something reasonably quick or wont be going anywhere

    Tks again

Many thanks for the replies. Satts, that is exactly the info I was after, much appreciated. Will let you know the route taken.

Buachaill, I would seriously look at staying in Le Sables D'Olonne instead of La Rochelle. The promenade, beach and cycle path facilities for anyone from infant to senior citizen are far superior to La Rochelle, which is more focused on the marinas etc. although equally as nice. Also from Roscoff, Le Sables will be an hour shorter of a drive each way!

Buachaill! And could I suggest a small small place called La Tranche-sur-Mer a little bit further south. This place is a little gem.
While Le Sables is nice it is a lot bigger, very very touristy with the crowds, and the traffic!
Ile de Re (island) is just opposite La Tranche and worth seeing but there are others, as well as cycleways and nice restaurants.
There must be 10K+ of beautiful, wide sandy beach here - you won't be disappointed.;)

No tolls on either route from Roscoff to Nantes. Not so sure about Nantes to La Rochelle. You may need a Sat Nav to avoid tolls on this stretch.

P.S. Lorient is not so nice. Quimper, Vannes, Rennes and Nantes are nice.

having done this trip lots of times, i would definitely be bringing a picnic and having breakfast on the ferry! it's about 6 hours to la rochelle. the last 2 hours are really scenic anyway on the main road so we always take the motorway and just pay the toll. satnav great for getting around big towns.
