    Depends on the wireless provider some such as Net1 or Westnet or Digiweb provide ultra low pings compared to DSL @ 3km.

    Ya I would say FWA could give you better ping times but it depends on the provider I guess. Mobile broadband and non los wireless will have higher ping than direct line of sight because signal will bounce of other objects.

    Here is ping results from my FWA provider (permanet) to multiplay.co.uk gameserver host in uk

    Pinging multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.68] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=30ms TTL=55
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=55
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=30ms TTL=55
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=55

    Ping statistics for 85.236.96.68:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 27ms, Maximum = 30ms, Average = 28ms

    Ping to same server from 3 mobile broadband
    Pinging multiplay.co.uk [85.236.96.68] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=82ms TTL=56
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=56
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=80ms TTL=56
    Reply from 85.236.96.68: bytes=32 time=90ms TTL=56

    Ping statistics for 85.236.96.68:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 80ms, Maximum = 90ms, Average = 83ms

    The mobile broadband is still ok but not as good as the FWA

    That is a bloody excellent 3G ping that. Very few come in under 100ms.

    Your house must have the mast welded to it. :)

    LMAO nope I'm actually quite far from it. I am only getting 2 bars signal but I live in a rural area so there is not as many people using it as there would be in a town. It would probably be even better if I I set-up some sort of outside antenna.

    With DSL at a distance from an exchange, (say 3km +) the interleaving setting that is used to stabilise the line will leave you with 50-60ms pings.

    So you have your answer for gaming, Fixed Wireless.

    I doubt if any G of mobile will get anywhere near 30ms and the reason why is that a mobile cell will always assume that you might move any minute and it needs to track you with a nailed up signal, but if your cell eventually goes to 4G and you remain in a quiet sector the ping times should drop to 50ms or lower.

    Pretty compact, around 25 x 25 cm to 50 x 50cm normally.
