    Hi,

A bunch of old laptops are being thrown out and i'm wondering if they would be any use to me. The model is HP Compaq 6910p. Al hard drives have been removed.

    Specs appear to be:

    • OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Business
    • Hard Drive: 120 GB SATA @ 5400RPM
    • Screen: 14.1" WXGA Widescreen (1280 x 800) (WXGA+ option available)
    • Graphics: Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics
    • RAM: 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 1GB)
    • Optical Drive: DVD SuperMulti drive (DVD+/-RW) w/Double Layer Support
    • Battery: 6-cell lithium ion, 55WHr
    • Wireless: Intel PRO / Wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n
    • Optional WWAN: Integrated HP ev2200 1xEV-DO Wireless Module
    • Security: Fingerprint reader, TPM hardware-based encryption
    • Weight: 5.2 lbs
    • Dimensions: 13" (Width) x 9.4" (Depth) x 1.1" (Height)
    • Ports/Slots: docking connector; 1 IEEE 1394 (FireWire); 3 Universal Serial Bus (USB 2.0); VGA monitor out; S-video out; RJ-45 Ethernet LAN; RJ-11 modem; Type I/II PC Card Slot; SmartCard; SD card reader; headphone/speaker jack; microphone

What would be the best use for this machine? Linux maybe?

I'd take one :P . Seriously a machine with those specs being thrown out? Unbelieveable, definately worth putting a hard disk in them and installing linux, there may even be a Vista license sticker you could use provided you got your hands on install media.
Unbelieveable those specs are getting binned though :eek:

Around 80 of them, believe it or not. All into a skip.

There is indeed a license sticker on the bottom; i didn't even think of that. So if i get my hands on a copy of Windows Vista Business, do you think that that would be a better idea than Linux. Perhaps bear in mind that i've never used linux before.

I binned them nearly two years ago. But yeah, they are still 100% functional as general use laptops.

Absolutely shocking waste :O . I'm sure there would be charities who would take some of them, seriously I'd check that out, binning 80 of decent spec machines (better spec than my own laptop, I've only a Core Duo) is incredible :O:O .
If you got your hands on a Vista disc you could legally install it using the license underneath, as they are tied to the motherboard of the system.

Pretty good and robust business machines, not the cheapo build consumer cr*p. Sold from $1,200 back in the day (over 4 years ago).

Should give them to schools, have them a hard drive fitted and it will serve students a helluva lot better than a bloody FizzBook for 600 yoyos (the Core 2 Duo T7300 will be running circles around a single core Atom). :D

We did, but the principal stands. We were getting rid of them. OP contact Camara and they will take them away. Great for getting rid of other electronics as well, I had a pretty good relationship with them in my old job.
