    Hi guys,

I'm looking to register a .ie domain name, and was wondering, with the way things are lately, what happens if I register the name for one year and the registration company goes under? How can I renew? Also, any ideas on which companies are unlikely to go under?

    Cheers.

Discussing hosting is taboo on boards. There's a list posted here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=53028341&postcount=2 with companies which are unlikely to go under.

Any idea what happens to your domain though if it happens? Cheers for your answer to my second question.

If you register a .ie and then need to transfer it for whatever reason you just need to send a fax to the IEDR on company headed paper.

The host you are planning on transferring it to will provide you with the info.

For example if you are transferring to balcknight you would need to follow the instructions here:
    http://www.blacknight.com/transfer-domain.html#c375

Hope that helps, Blacknight are best prices I have come across but their customer service is exceptional so even if they were more expensive I would be still with them.

IEDR has contingency plans if a registrar goes bang. Your domain could be moved to another registrar/hoster.

This is the list of IEDR accredited registrars:
