Are we limited to zombie movies? Or are you looking for a wider array of movies?

  • Registered Users Posts: 44,080 ✭✭✭✭Micky Dolenz

I think either zombie, infected or virus related aplocalaptic movies would fit with the sprit of the forum. Nuclear or alien movies would be out.

    Open to suggestions though. :)

Could include shows instead of just movies, would broaden your scope a bit

  • Registered Users Posts: 495 ✭✭ChaseThisLight

    Okay.

So...off the top of my head...

    Carriers
    Contagion
    Outbreak
    The Dead
    The Road
    The Stand

Not sure if you'll accept trilogies:

    28 Days/Weeks Later
    The Evil Dead
    Resident Evil

    Night of the living dead
    Shaun of the Dead
Dawn of the dead (original and remake?)
    La Horde
    I am legend
    From Dusk til Dawn

Quarantine - not really zombie, but definitely infection.

For shows, hmm - The Walking Dead and Dead Set are all that come to mind. I'm probably missing out on a lot of zombie shows.

    The Crazies
    Pontypool
Night of the Comet (Micky, you said no aliens, and this is caused by a comet...does it count?)
    Survivors (TV show)

And I had a look at my blockbuster queue and while I've not seen any of these yet, they fit the bill:

    Ever Since The World Ended
    Zombie Apocalypse
    The Dead Outside
    Extinction: The G.M.O. Chronicles
    Autumn
    Devil's Playground

I think this is a good point though, people might not have seen the movies (or it will be so long ago it's a blur) so can we get a bit longer between votes?

Lets see what's not been mentioned...i'm gonna chuck in some post apoc stuff too :)

    Zombieland
    Mad Max 2 & 3
    The Thing (1982)
    Doomsday
    The Postman
    Land of the Dead
Escape from New York (canibalism = zombies?)
    Mutant Chronicles
    Reign of fire
    Red Dawn (best film EVAR!)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭RiderOnTheStorm

    Omega Man
    Black Sheep
Blade (vampires not zombies, but a strong element of virus infection)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

    Late to the party but:

    Book of Eli
    Children of Men
    Planet Terror
    Running Man
    V for Vendetta
    Planet of the Apes
    Waterworld

    The Quiet Earth

Lined out ones are dystopian/post-apoca but don't have a virus or zombies.

So is the plan to pit them head-to-head to determine what the best movie is or are we planning to take characters from each movie or what?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

    Pontypool
    La horde
    Colin

would Lesbian Vampire killers fall into the category

I dunno about Reign of Fire, its kinda post apocalyptic, but it has Dragons

Simple is better I think. What movie did you enjoy the most. 1 v 1 until there is only 1 left.

We'd have to pick movies most have seen. If the list of contenders is up and then picked random match ups, it will give people a chance to check some out. It'll be fun and educational :p

The Thats zombietainment thread would have the best list of movies that we have all seen wouldn't it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 746 ✭✭✭ladypip

ohhhh just had a thought, would anyone else be interested in a weekly movie? We could take turns to suggest a movie on a set night and we could all try watch it in the same week and discuss it? Shall I start a new thread for this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭RiderOnTheStorm

the more i read here, the more films i remember that i havnt seen in a while !

might spend a few hours in front of the tube this bank holiday weekend

(note: for all the kids out there - 'tube' is old slang for the tv!)

my addition to the list is

    30 Days of Night

A weekly movie could sure be manageable. We're tried to figure out a way to all watch the same movie at the same time but that's just impractical due to time zones. etc. I post a full month's worth of movies, with one each night, during October/Halloween... but I'd sure be open to a Move of the Week idea.

Rules sound good MD. Nice and simple. Movie vs movie.

    Just seen that Outbreak http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114069/

is on tv tonight (on Watch if you have it) at 10pm

Might be worth sticking that on the list too. Some interesting views on how containment is handled and mishandled with contagions :)

Outbreak was in the first list I suggested. Good movie. That and Contagion really show you how fast an outbreak can spread and how. Kinda scary.

That was the first movies I saw that showed infection spreading and I have had a soft spot for them ever since. Would love to rematch it, but can't find it on Watch!
