Becoming a licensed psychologist in Manhattan?

Hi there. This might be the wrong place to ask I don't really know. I've tried Yahoo! already and haven't gotten any real answers so I'm trying this forum.

I have this... I want to say "silly" dream but I also want to believe it's realistic.

I'm 22 years old and I quite recently discovered what I want to become, which is a psychologist mainly but also just working around the subject psychology. I want to be the kind of psychologist that deal with everyday issues, but when I actually start studying it I might get a little more advanced than that I don't know.

    Now to my "dream".

I'm from Sweden. About 6-8 years back I developed this "love" for the States in general. For a long time I knew that at some point in life I wanted to live in California or New York but recently it's dawned upon me that New York is the place I want to move to and work. I'm thinking Manhattan, of course.

Now... I have this dream of studying psychology in Sweden and then maybe try and get a year or two in the States as an exchange student and when I'm done I want to do whatever is necessary to "transfer" my knowledge to what is required of a US psychologist and eventually move and work in New York.

Is the dream of having a fairly decent apartment on Manhattan and work in(this sounds kind of childish, but whatever) one of those skyscrapers an unrealistic one, for someone like me?

I reckon I'll be done all together in about 10-12 years. If we can forget all the minor details of what has to be done here and there and just focus on the big picture - is this even possible?

I'd appreciate any serious, elaborate answers.

    Thank you :)

This is an Irish discussion board, so I don't know if anyone here can help.

You might look at psychologist licensing in New York State, and see what's required. Usually a PhD in Clinical Psychology or equivalent. I don't see why you shouldn't attain your ambition, but I believe college fees in the USA are horrendously high.

Oh, my bad on the Irish-forum part. I just googled a random psychology question and found this one.

    Thanks though :)
