Bottom Bracket: Covered by warranty?

Are bottom brackets generally covered under Warranty or are they considered consumables like brake pads and tyres?

Not an expensive part, but don't want to go spending hard earned when a warranty will cover it.

Most (all?) warranties are frame only. A BB would be considered consumable.

10 months (depending on the mileage) is reasonable enough for a BB.

A bike warranty will generally cover the frame only.

You could try bringing it back and seeing what they say.

Is it very obvious when the bb needs changing. I'm sure mine needs it as it's 3 years oldbut it seems to be ok?

Bike was bought online from UK so not practical to send back.

Found the manual and it lists the following: (not sure where the shock struts are on my carbon road bike:D)
    List of consumable parts:
    - Braking components (pads, rims)
    - Tires, inner tubes, rim strips
    - Cables and casing
    - Transmission parts (chain, chainwheels, cassette, bottom bracket)
    - Shock struts and bushings
    - Full suspended frames pivot bearings.

So the bottom bracket isn't covered.

    Cue the bottom bracket questions:
    It's a BB-5600.. How do I know if it's English or Itialian?
    Will a 5700 or 6703 be a direct replacement?

The bottom bracket of my Lapierre was covered under warranty in Cycle Superstore as it needed replacement after about 4 months.

its covered by warranty for manufacturer faults but not wear and tear.

parts should be covered for at least 1 year.

The B.B. is covered by Shimano warranty for two years, I'm sure there are various terms and conditions and I know they are fussy about shells being faced properly with their external B.B.s these days but that's down to the frame manufacturer.
You could fire off some emails I suppose or just spend 20-30 eurons on a new one and get back on the road sooner!

At first the signs of worn bottom bracket bearings can be fairly subtle, but they become more obvious. Take the chain off the chainrings and turn the cranks by hand. If they spin smoothly without any "gritty" feeling, and if there is no side to side play the bearings are probably fine.

The age of the bottom bracket doesn't really come into it. It's about mileage, conditions in which it is used, and how well sealed the bearings are.

I've had bearings wear out on my winter road bike in the course of a few months due to doing fairly heavy mileage in wet conditions, whereas my getting around bike has had the same bearings for about 3 or 4 years now, despite being ridden through flood waters that were up to the handlebars! Evidently those bearings are abnormally well sealed!

How can you expect all parts to be covered , a year is a long time in the life if a bike if not treated right , most manufacturers will not warranty moving parts ,

Does the length of bb have to be exact? I'm looking for a replacement and the spec sheet calls for a 68mm x 113mm, but that model number on crc says it's 68mm x 116mm. Should i get a different model number the same length or same model number different length?
