Wondering if these 24 channels will be available in a similar way that current Red Button is on a Freesat set up?

I can get the current Red Button channels on my Freesat TV but I wonder will they be adding more channels to show a total of 24 or am i missing something?

The 48 new channels will be added to the Sports section of Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide from the 24th of July. The channels are free-to-air and available to any Sky home, including Freesat from Sky homes. The HD channels are available on any Sky+HD box and do not require a subscription, but do require an HD ready TV. Customers will require a Sky subscription in order to use Sky+.
In addition to the live Olympic coverage scheduled to broadcast over the 24 new BBC channels, comprehensive Olympic coverage will also be available on BBC One, BBC One HD, BBC HD, BBC Two, BBC Three and the BBC News Channel, of all which will also be available to all
    10.3 million Sky homes.
    END
    Notes to editors
The BBC’s dedicated Olympics channels are being made available to TV platforms on a non-exclusive basis. The BBC multi-feed coverage will only be available to Sky homes in the Republic of Ireland via the BBC Red Button.

OK so that seems to be for Sky platform

Anyone any ideas if it will be viewable on Freesat?

Good thinking - we have an old Sky box that we are not using as its not HD but if I can just plug this in for the Olympics then it will do the job

Freesat to offer BBC’s 24 HD Olympic Channels

Freesat will carry all of the BBC’s 24 live HD Olympic channels throughout the London 2012 Olympics, offering the full range of live BBC Olympics coverage, bringing every Olympic sport from every Olympic venue.

In addition to the 24 temporary BBC HD Olympics channels listed in the Freesat TV Guide, Freesat viewers will also be able to access the live ‘streams’ via the BBC Red Button service. Freesat’s customers with standard definition boxes will also be able to see all of the 24 BBC Olympics channels in standard definition.

Managing Director of Freesat, Emma Scott welcomed the non-exclusive agreement with the BBC, saying:

We’re totally delighted to be able to offer Freesat viewers these great BBC HD services. It is going to be an amazing summer of sport and the London 2012 Olympics in HD will truly be a sight to behold. This is the latest great example of the quality and choice in TV programmes available to Freesat customers, all subscription-free.

I think it will but if not you can swap cards to view.

This sounds like great news but I'm not sure- if these are HD only channels it's likely that they will be DVB-S2 channels which Sky boxes can't manually tune in.

I thought they said you could watch them in SD on a normal SKY box and I'm not sure Freesat does DVB S2.

It will - just need to make space for those extra HD channels

Assuming of course that they will not be DVB-S2 and searchable for Other Channels

It seems to say that they will only be in Ireland on the red button, but I don't know how they are going to put 24 streams on the red button

    according to skys press statement,

" The 48 new channels will be added to the Sports section of Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide from the 24th of July. ie 24 SD and 24 HD versions
    free to air
    so tunable on most boxes,

Sky say that all of the SD & HD strrams will be available on their EPG. If BBC make the streams a red button service, I'm pretty sure they will be tunable & found as "data" services just like their existing red button screens 1 to 4.
