    HI there

Just wondering if this quote is a bit steep. Im looking to put in a small garden red brick wall (L Shaped as there are existing walls covering other sides)

5 Piers Granite Capped (5 foot High) Granite cappings are expensive I know about 100 Euro Each, The Piers at 5 foot are quite high of course thats grande so some extra foundation work here for the weight.

Connecting the piers (the main wall piece) I wanted a very small wall at 1.5 foot high only (ill be putting in a metal decorative railing in the void at a later stage which will bring the overall wall to the same height as the pillars. Ie 5 foot.

Overall your looking at approx 20 foot lenght and 12 foot wide. With the majority of the wall being a mere 1.5 foot high.

    His quote broke down as

Materials Euro 1400 (seems fair enough)
    1.5 pallets of red bricks
    1 ton Sand cement
    5 x granite pillar cappings

Skip Euro 100 (of course no probs here)

Labour 1950.00 ( Foundation digging cement pour and wall building)

    Grand total 3450.00

I would have thought a decent brickie could have dug out the foundation for this in about 1 day. No concrete to be broke just soil (i would assume foundation wise you are looking at about 1.5 foot deep?
Actual wall build I would have thought 4/5 days tops. The Piers would be the most time consuming. I mean the connecting wall would be 1.5 foot tall only. Granted they are small red bricks which would take longer than cavity wall bricks.
Any thoughts? I was thinking it was a bit stiff. Sample pic attached . The connecting wall in sample pic is WAY higher that what i wanted just to note.

how much do you think you should pay for a days work? Take out the plant hire cost for excavator, and anything else that may be needed, it is basically wages for 2 men for a week and a couple fo days, which is what you are already assuming it is. You may well find some cheaper labour, but it also depends on VAT. Are you including VAT in your price?

That was a total Price he never mentioned vat actually. Weeks work and materials I would have thought 2500 all in. Heavy machinery not required.
