Chainring change

Considering changing my front large from a 50t upto a 53t but am unsure of the specifics of what I have to do. I have a triple and would like to keep a triple as I enjoy pretending to have an easy time going up hills :D

What will i have to do other than buy the replacement ring and fit it? I know I will most likely have to change the chain but it is nearly due a change anyway as it will have to be slightly longer. Presumably my front dérailleur may have to move up slightly (or will it, it is only three teeth).

Will it turn out to be a case that I have to change the entire triple? or should just changing the outer one be enough, changing gear won't be as smooth but it shouldn't cause any other issues.

Never done this so hence the basic questions.

    Yes you will.
You will prob have to change the middle ring to a 38 as anything smaller then that will give you trouble in upshifting and downshifting. Max gap between teeth is 16.
The ideal option would be to get a 50 34 and a nice tight cassette as 34 25 should get you comfortably up most hills.

What about chain length? Would you have to adjust this too for a bigger outer chainring?

I regularly switch between standard and compact without changing chain length or front mech position.

How do you manage this Lumen?
I recently changed from compact and had 2 add on 2 links and move the front mech up a good bit(...a fffer of a job!!!)

I think I must have started out with a standard, so the front mech is a bit higher. I race on standard so I suppose the shifting is optimal for that but it works fine with a compact too.

I always use 53 links in the chain. If I ever found the chain too short or too long I'd just take more care to avoid cross chaining.
