Heatsink Fan for 2500k @ ~4.4GHz

Ok so today I was playing League of Legends (not a terribly demanding and program) and my CPU overheated; causing my computer to force restart. This happened again when I was patching a game on steam.

I must admit I cut corners a bit when buying my CPU fan, it's and Arctic Cooling 7 Pro Rev.2. My MoBo doesn't even read it's RPM properly. Idle and Performance temps were never exceptionally high until now however.

Anyway I think it's best to buy a new fan and I wa looking for advice on what model is best to get for an i5 2500k at ~4.4GHz OC'ing? Is a water cooler worth it or is it just overkill?

    TL;DR
What CPU Fan is best for 2500k @ ~4.4GHz OC? Water cooling: Yes/No?

Thanks for your time and help. ^_^

water cooler wouldn't be overkill. I've used aftermarket fans and WCs and between the two I'm more likely to install the WC again, it was really straightforward, and runs whisper quiet. I got the Corsair H60 but for what you're at I'd reccomend the H80. No need to get extra paste, the stuff that comes on it is pretty decent. However you will need to clean off the CPU top with Isoprophyl Alcohol as part of the swapout before you put it on, and at that point it would not be a bad idea to pre-treat the surface of the cpu with Arctic Silver 5 - all you're wanting to do though is fill in the pores: wipe off any excess using a disposable plastic card, and/or a microfiber/chamois cloth. If you're daring you can go one farther and gently sand the surface of the CPU to increase the plate's surface area and help it transfer heat more quickly (do this before treating it with the silver obviously). When you attach the H80 there should only be trace amounts of silver on the CPU, just to fill in the pores.

Though another possibility is when you installed the original, if you contaminated the surface of the CPU or the Heatsink with sweat or body oils, that would seriously impact your thermal performance. In the meantime though play it safe and dial it back to stock.

LOL is totally CPU based(5770HAWK barely clocks 20%) so while low spec your CPU will be chugging along. i7 2600k's can get 4.4 on air so WC isn't a must, a good fan will do you if you dont mind the noise. Or just clock back a bit, most people, would do fine at stock clocks, unless you're encoding video etc.

Im using this water cooler the (h60) on my i5 2500k and have no over heating problems and ive oc'ed to 4.6ghz

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CWCH60-Water-Cooler/dp/B004MYFOE2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333443332&sr=8-1 good value too.

Its sat in a somewhat soundproofed case with 2 other 120mm fans at the front + has a 9250 graphics card and I have had no crashed due to heat etc...

Oh and I play LoL and many more graphically intensive games (bf3 on full settings, skyrim etc..)
