Hi guys, just looking for some help with buying a TV. I haven't a clue about what types are available and the more I read the more confused I get. Budget of €300-400, looking for as big as I can get that's decent, 40"?? Also, signed up to UPC. So just checking on any recommendations from anyone please?? :)

    Shavie :)

I would check reviews of various models on the internet, there's plenty out there.

Avoid cheaper brand names like Bush, Technika, Goodmans, Alba, Beko etc.

Stick with Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic if you can.

Go for 1080p if you can. If using a 40" TV and a Blu Ray player, might just notice the increase in quality in picture.

Don't get the biggest TV you can afford. Can be a mistake. I have seen some living rooms about 10ft x 11ft with a 42" TV and it looks ridiculous. Too big plus you will be able to see the makeup of the picture it'll be that close. Size isn't everything.

And don' forget to get one thats Saorview compatible.

Check out deliverme.ie. You can get Free Delivery to their office in Newry and you pay them e22 and they will ship to you.

That LG linked above is not a bad price, I seen tht exact telly in Curry's for e589 today.

I'm looking for a 32" HDTV with Saorview
some SMART functions ie want to be able to use netflix and similar services.
I particularly want to record onto a memory stick or hard disk ie PVR ready

Hannspree seem to meet these requirements but the tv picture in the shop didn't look great compared to other tv's could be due to different source of signal.

    Any advice?

For the features your looking for I would go for a Sony 32EX range with Wifi. Mate has the 32EX723 and we watched some Netflix films on it with ease. It's a 3D TV but you don't have to use that function if you don't wish too

However, I would advise you to strongly consider the option of just hooking your laptop up to an LCD as you have infinitely more Internet features then than any Smart TV. The browsers on these TVs are not great yet and so it's an in-perfected medium to be spending a lot of money to get the best of.

You can also use Android and Apple phones as remotes for Laptops now and so you will still have remote function if you went that route instead but if you're intent on an LCD with Internet access then the 32EX723 (or 32EX523 without 3D) is the one I would recommend and would cost you €488 delivered from Amazon if you got it from them, which seem to be the cheapest around.

Sony Centre on Stephen's Green are looking for €699 for it
