Where to put receiver?

Putting a flat screen tv in the kitchen. It will be wall mounted (tight to the wall) at head height. All the connections will be directly behind it.
Question is where to put a freesat receiver for said tv? There will be no table or compartment nearby. It's more or less a blank wall but for the tv in the centre.

    What is the best option?

Thought about a tv with built in saorview and freesat. It would probably be ideal but I think these are very hard to find?
Is there any option to mount a receiver so that won't look out of place beside a wall mounted flat screen?
Thinking out loud now but could I put a little magic eye type thing on the tv and have the freesat box elsewhere? Like tucked away in the attic maybe.

Have a system working like this at home. The TV is mounted to the wall and a small AV receiver is connected to it that fits in limited space available behind the TV. The sat receiver (and av sender) itself is tucked in a small shelf under the staircase. Picture quality is a little diminished but it does the job quite nicely.

If you do have a little space to work with, something like this could work - http://www.starview.co.nz/S1812.htm

You could even try just running a hdmi cable from your tv to the sat receiver and using a wireless remote control sender or through one of these - http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/04/sewell-injectir/

    Hope this helps,

Was looking at the Panasonic range but can't find anything under 37 inches.

I'm looking for a 24 inch tv,or thereabouts. Can these be got with freesat/freeview combined? Would be ideal.

You can put the receiver anywhere that can be linked to the tv via HDMI cable & an IR sender for the remote, if needed.

Don't bother with AV senders or RF modulators or limit yourself to unsuitable tvs just because they have a satellite tuner.

With flatscreens dominating the market now for some time I find it strange that no company has made efforts to make receivers more tidy or compact.
That micro one that actua11 linked to looks ideal. I will try and learn more and look for reviews.

Running a hdmi lead tidily is even going to be a task here. I suppose I could consider just Saorview on this tv.
    Any other suggestions welcome!

i had a look and no chance of a tv that size with freesat and saorview. what you could do is buy a combi box and then a cheaper tv ie without saorview, these combi boxes are small by the way, then use an idea like shown in this link, ie a glass shelf underneath with cables hidden.

Are there any freesat receivers that come with an RF out? I know the sky boxes do and it's also possible to get an RF modulator, but a decent receiver with an RF out could be a good option.

Cat. 5 network cable can carry HDMI signals & should be relatively easy to pull into a conduit.

    Google "HDMI over cat 5".

    Ah!
I have a phone cable running with the coax to the attic. I'm guessing(hoping) this is Cat 5?

From a brief bit of research ... the more reasonably priced HDMI extenders seem to require 2 network cables, the decent quality single cable ones being considerably more expensive.

Thanks for the help Ronnie Raygun (again).

Im guessing this or this is the thing I need.

Will read up more about those.

If you are not bothered about Freesat - you can get European TVs with triple tuners. Sony and Samsung both have 32” TVs with this capability for around 600 euro.

Ok, they are not Saorview or Freesat certified – but with minimal wiring and clutter you can get the digital Irish channels and satellite channels (now/next data) on your wall mounted TV.

Thanks JDextra but a 32" would be too big for the space. Would be the ideal solution if they were available in sizes smaller than 32"

    .

This is a nice neat solution. Will not have 7 day epg, but you will be able to reorder the channels to the order you want. Eg The HD channels at position 1-5 etc...

Could have a winner, thanks givecredit.
That looks a great system. Even allows for USB recording.

    More information on it here.

Any drawbacks? Can live without 7 day epg.
