I got the MAF mass air flow done on my car today with a spurious part cost me 250 euro it was on a 10 year old c220 cdi mercedes.I feel robbed.The part costs 98 euro in Micks garage !

Is the one of micks garage the same brand as the one you had fitted?

Did the garage who fitted the MAF also diagnose the problem?

No the part is different and they did diagnose the problem but I was aware it could have been my MAF and as I do all my own servicing I was annoyed I didnt have time to do it .

The only way I can sense an outrage here is if they handed you the 98 Euro el cheapo MAF and told you to fit it yourself for 250 Euro. A decent MAF can be 300 Euro, plus diagnostics, plus labour.

So you paid for diagnostics, fitting and the MAF. Check the price in Ireland for the MAF you had fitted and compare then.

I have been driving a BMW 2001 E46 1.9l with a faulty MAF unit for the last two years due to the excessive cost of replacing same. Recently I decided to try and source a reasonably priced original Bosch unit in Germany. I tried using google.de but it kept reverting to google.ie. I discovered that adding /ncr after google.de it prevented automatic redirection to .ie. Most websites are in German and you have to use the translate facility on Bing or Google to understand what is what. After that I found a website belonging to MAF Service GmbH in Berlin offering a new original Bosch MAF unit for €146 including signed for postage & VAT. I took a chance and purchased same using my credit card. My order was acknowledged and I was informed when it was dispatched by email which included a tracking code. I received and signed for the Original Bosch MAF unit that I ordered one week later. Fitted it to the car myself and it is now running perfectly. The emails that I was sent were in German so I copied and pasted them into a Word document, saved and used Bing to translate saved file to english. Before taking this route you need to be sure it is the MAF that is at fault and that returning it under guarantee may or may not be a problem. Also, you need to be sure to order the unit with the right part number. Good Luck.
