After suffering my first seizure in a year about half an hour ago I am thinking about going to see a specialist about it. I was really disappointed getting it as I thought I was over it but it appears not. When I got the last seizure I hadn't taken my meds (epilem) in two days and had been out on the piss so I put it down to that but since I have not missed my meds once and have currently not drank in two and a half weeks so I can't use that as an excuse.

I'm really disappointed because I will be finished college in May and was planning on getting a car as if I get a job it will mostly be quite a bit outside where I live.

Anyway all this has led me to consider seeing a specialist, the doctor I saw in CUH didn't impress tbh, the day I was in there there was a huge delay and I felt I was just rushed through to clear the backlog as well as just being told that I have epilepsy with no real discussion of what I should do or anything in those lines.

Anyway if someone could recommend a specialist and give me some idea of the cost I would really appreciate it.

Don't Beaumont Hospital have an epilepsy unit? Maybe try contacting them?

Hi OP, you're mad drinking, it's just not worth it. You're back to square one now, as far as waiting to be seizure-free a year to drive. (I know drink didn't cause your seizure this time though)

You should have been referred to a neurologist through A&E when you had your first seizure, if not, then your GP should have referred you. You need to go to your GP now and tell him to refer you as an emergency case to a neurologist. If you're in Dublin, there are two EpiNeuroligists in Beaumont. (i'm a patient of one of them)
You should have been assessed by a neuro team before being put on meds. There are also 2 epilepsy nurses in Beaumont, who have a service that you can ring and ask questions etc. Their number and opening hours are on the Beaumont website.
Take note of every seizure and aura you have and bring this to your appointment with you. and try not to drink. :) good luck. Em
