Well you don't need a class 1 for one thing. But getting a class 2 over there wouldn't be that expensive.

But there's no need to convert it to an Irish licence when you do get back. So no expense is involved unless you really want an Irish licence.

That I don't know, my guess is no. But don't take my word for it. But if you haven't got your Irish class 1 yet then go to Gatwick and get a British one. If you have, contact the CAA and ask.

My medicals have always been from the IAA but all my training and licence issue is from the CAA. I have never had a problem and have never met anyone who has.
There all JAA so your grand.
I know lads who did the owl JAA class 1 in Greece because they failed it in IAA/CAA land ;) and still get there licence/ratings renewed no bother.

You would expect them to be all JAA and the same but it's not that simple unfortunately!

Sounds like you want to complete your CPL eventually in Ireland. My advice would be to do an IAA initial class 1.

I did an initial IAA class 1, IAA PPL, CAA CPL and no issue with my medical.

Two friends of mine did initial IAA class 1 and CAA PPL and no issue.

Have come across a guy that did initial CAA class 1, CAA PPL and IAA CPL, he had an issue because the IAA wouldn't accept an initial CAA class 1 for an IAA CPL so he had to do his IAA medical all over again! Cha ching... :)

Definatley check it out with bit the IAA and CAA aeromeds but I believe that if you want to do IAA initial class 1, CAA PPL and come back to do an IAA CPL then you should be fine.

When it comes to renewal you can go anywhere is JAA land, it's just the initial that gets awkward, I go to Belfast as it's way cheaper that the Mater.
