Seeing very few now on the road, I assume most of them are dead already. Unless it is really cheap and in great condition, i wouldn't buy it. Engine itself isnt that bad, it just wasn't well built car. I think it was worse than previous model (Bravo/Brava/Marea).

More awkward, fiddly, electronic disaster at times (flat battery and opening the car springs to mind)

Get a decent Bravo if there are any left :)

My brother just sold his to one of this scrap buyers for 150E. Shame, as the car was driving ok, needed some suspension work for nct, but he just didn't feel that it was worth it any more. But still, more Bravos than Stilos on the roads means they were much better cars, what happened to the Puntos btw - i can't see them any more. Are they all parked up at scrap yards now?

I have suspension parts for at least 3 of those cars... Shocks, top mounts, rear axles! Pity about the car :(

Most mk1 Puntos died away as they're all old. Oldest would currently be 18 years old, newest 12

See a lot of 2000 reg cars, but the Puntos are gone. There used to be a lot of them on L plates, apparently 12 years was more than enough for these cars, they were not made to last ages anyway.

As for the bravo - if i had a storage i would keep it as an emergency car, but it had to go. NCT up in April, so asking price would be around 200 mark anyway.

Stilo's need rear axle bushing replaced at about 80k miles.

One major pita to do and stealer will charge guts of a grand.

I had the 00 brava 1.2 and also the 2003 stilo 1.2 and the stilo was the better refined car.
The bravo gearboxs are soft and hard to get second hand as i found out when my diff went bang, and dont even think about getting the 1.4 bravo 12 valve.
The stilo have a lot more toys and i was getting 42mpg according to the computer.
I only traded in the stilo which was faultless after 3 years as i got a great deal on a bravo 2008 150 sport.
If getting a stilo just make sure of the service history just like any other car.

    we have had a 2003 1.2 stilo since 2005.

it has been used since then as a driving school car. it now has 120,000 Miles and is the best car we have had in the driving school to date.

All that has ever been done to it is servicing, brakes, shocks etc.

has never broken down (touch wood)

the 1.2 engine is a little slow that would be our only complaint.

I have one for over 5 years now. I don't have anything bad to say about the car. If you service it regularly it will last for ever.
Interior is better quality than German cars and look nicer. Engine 1,2 is not a hot-rod but it goes well.

I think they are cool looking, not a clue about reliability though.

1.2 16v is GUTLESS in a car of that size. If you can stretch to the 1.4, its a significantly faster engine.

The one we had (2002) was an electronic nightmare, far more so than any other Fiat we've ever. But the later models (2005+) were heavily re-worked (it was even resubmitted to NCAP, and got a higher rating); pity they didn't do even so much as a facelift to convince anyone they'd changed them.

Have been considering getting one for my bf on the basis that its, for a Fiat, built like a tank, Irish spec is surprisingly good, and my only experiences of maintaining older cars have been 100% Fiat... and they depreciate like crazy, 3k for a later model estate for instance.

I had a jtd van until recently. I know it's a different engine but over all I'd say that it was a great little car. Minor electrical niggles but then again it's a second hand car so these things didn't overly bother me. Good looking and cheap. I don't think they deserve the bad reputation tbh!
