Rear Light cluster Pug 5008 costing €510

Im in shock! Wife tipped the familywagon 5008 off a pole over the w/e. Anyway glass is smashed in the rear light cluster but otherwise not a single paintwork scratch on her.The cluster housing itself is grand as just the glass is broken into smithereens-but main dealer advises that the whole unit has to be replaced in its entirety as Peugeot don't supply the glass seperately. This is madness @ €510 fitted. Unfortunately even in the UK it costs £313 which is still ridiculous.

Its looking like a tiny caravan in Bettystown for this years holidays:(

Yea, stuff like that on any new-ish car is gonna cost. But still, that is a horrific price.

You might find one being broken for parts? Fat chance of it happening though.

You could source used from Poland for ca. €100 +delivery. Just checked.

Check your insurance policy, you might have bonus protection, you might be able to make 1 claim under a certain amount and not lose your NCB.

If the above was the case and say your excess is € 300, that’s still € 200 expense avoided

That is the best option, however make sure that the lights are absolutely identical. I know on some cars that the reverse and rear fog light may be on the opposite sides so I would aim to source a one from a right hand drive model.

Ebay is very useful for this purpose.

A scrapyard in the UK or Ireland would be even easier surely.

I'm sure theres a few that have been in heavy enough front end collisions to write them off at this stage.

I would recommend ringing scrapyards around.

Unfortunately rear light clusters are never cheap.
They are however usually easy enough to fit yourself.

Do Somora/KC stock them for that car?

I did exactly that and subbed in a red bulb instead of a white for the fog. A whole lot cheaper than the rhd cluster. Not sure if the 5008 is led or bulbs though. Mines a 307sw. I never get parts from the main dealer.

Just in case you're missing what willfromcork posted....

This is being broken on done deal. That's your best bet for the rear lights and anything else you may need!

They are hardly breaking that though.

Could be just selling it as a damaged repairable.

    Hello beazee,

What website did you see the used taillights on? I searched for them online but couldn't see any polish website.
    Thanks

Yup, ad says "Damaged Repairable". Still worth a shot to call!

It's got an garage sticker from the other end of the country on it. I suspect if it was replaced with a new car so definitely worth a shot.

    Polish "ebay": http://allegro.pl/listing.php/search?string=5008&category=4137
Should I source them for you?

No, I didnt miss anything but if you think that that is heavy damage that would warrant scrapping, then I think you have missed something.

There isn't a hope that 5008 is being scrapped.

    Definately not.

Anyway it is described as damaged repairable. It is only the front left quadrant that had the knock. It's only because the grille and bumper are missing that it looks much worse.

It actually doesnt look bad at all tbh

    +1

Read the advert, it's 9750 for that car as is, for purposes of repair.

@op, Dempsey's in Ballina have one scrapped, 096-45412.

Theirs is listed as a complete car, so someone could buy that damaged repairable one in Roscommon and get the secondhand panels in Mayo, and have a cheap 5008 for themselves.

How did you get on sourcing the taillight for the 5008? There is a guy I work with in the same predicament looking for the same rear cluster.

Cant believe the price of them new

My advice would be to find someone who speaks Polish and order them off the site a user posted above:

The taillight is being delivered from Poland towards end of next week. Co-ordinated by a helpful polish speaker on boards. I will fit it myself when it arrives-fingers crossed its 100% compatible with RHD models. The fog lams and reversing lamps are on a seperate cluster down on the bumper so the main taillight should match up I believe. But there is a degree of risk of a mismatch.
With our car the brake/indicator/rear lamps bulbs work OK as only the outside bottom half of the glass is broken, so its ok to drive as it is till then for us and no mad rush to fix it.

Allegro is polish equivalent for ebay, and is doing really well. However, even if you translate the website, you will have a problem to register, and buy. Me, being a polish, had to give up, as after registration you can't really buy anything, not even to mention selling stuff. You are limited to 3 emails to seller, before your details are confirmed. You can do it only by asking them to send you a letter with activation code, and after that you have some of the limits on your account lifted. It is much more complicated system than ebay, but at the same time it is more secure, and there are lot of items that are not even available in Ireland. Had to use it to get my brake caliper fixed, as there was no option to get the seals in Ireland, and from ebay it would cost about what second hand caliper would cost here. I paid 10E for it, incl. delivery, so not bad deal.
If you have a friend who is Polish, or have somone to send it to you, it will make a buying lot easier. Even better if the seller sends it to polish address, and then your friend's relative sends it to Ireland! Saves you few days and euros, too.

Finally got around to fitting the 5008 rear light cluster sourced from Poland by Beazee. Took me about 20 mins to fit and works perfectly!

Massive thanks to Beazee the costs were dramatically reduced:).

That polish website is v useful for parts interchangeable for LHD/RHD cars.

I like the symmetry on this thread - a pole broke the light, and a Pole helped to repair it :) Fair play!

€500 is mad money, a courier cracked my driver's side rear cluster on my Mark IV Golf, and the housing only cost €150 or so "plus VAT" back in 2004.

(Side rant: why does "de motor trayad" parts departments insist on quoting parts as "x plus (the) VAT"? Probably 99% of people they're quoting to are consumers that have to pay it, so why not just say the full price? Some lame ass way of making it sound cheaper? It's not like the salesmen say "That car is €20,000". Plus VAT). Sorry for the derail.

Fair play to Beazee - its great when someone from a forum goes out of their way to help a fellow boardsie. He offered to help when my friend was also looking for a similar part :) Deserves special thanks.
