400-600 Euro will buy you an entry level laptop, forget about gaming.

You should at least consider 8-900 Euro.

Bump the thread when you have the money. No point in looking up good deals now if you only have the money in 3 or 4 months, is there? ;)

What good does you a "research" now when the 3rd generation of Core iX (Ivy Bridge) based systems hit the shelves in a few weeks time, you wouldn't want to buy an old clunker with your hard-earned cash, would you? ;)

your budget should get a xps m1730, as long as it got a 9800m graphics it should be good for most games, bonus points if it got sli.

as torquay pointed out no dx11 and no fancy i3/i7 processors but to go that route you will have to up the ante considerably.

    one question on that laptop.

that hard drive, since just 1 is quoted on the build will there be a cable to attach another hdd? like my m1730?

also with the new wave of ivy bridge cpus out, i wonder will dell release a updated bios for the alienware range down the line...

Somehow I knew all along that the lack of DirectX11 compatibility was the reason for you to sell your old clunker... :D

not really, i think you really underestimated that.

i will run pc mark vantage and see what scores i get on it once it arrives, got almost 7000 marks with this 'clunker'

I dont really game much but did not realise my machine was 'shoving' on so to speak, have not been tuned into hardware and laptops for a bit as I was busy studying and working.

Dell isn't exactly known for updating their BIOS with support for newer processor generations (they will happily sell you a new computer though), better hope this policy doesn't apply to Alienware. ;)

Not with Dell, there isn't. ;)

If you're looking for OCing or performance upgrades, Dell is not the place to shop around. But then, this may be different with Alienware.

Clevo and Alienware are built for upgrading. I wouldn't be worrying about upgrading that thing though.

Dell have constantly updated their alienware bios. Although in saying that some of the updates for the m14x have been worse as they've increased fan rate and reduced processor speed on battery

there is always a new technology to worry about...

as soon as its one thing its another.

lets not worry too much. its not like an i7 is a relic...or is it. :pac:

If it's not a real Holodeck or a Stargate with a Puddle Jumper then it's not worth knowing about.
