    Hello,

Thinking of going for either a Cube Peloton Pro 12 or a Cube Peloton 11 for my first road bike any comments tips suggestions alternatives?

I just want to increase fitness and think cycling will be the best way to do so with least damage on the body! Hopefully??!!

Thanks I have looked at this thread and the Cube seems to be the one I will go with, I guess what I am asking is do you think it is any good? Also what is the best geometry to go for in terms of riding position i would prefer something relaxed as I have problems with my back...

I bought a Cube Peleton last year when I took up cycling. Bit of a 'chicken and egg' situation, I bought a bike so that I could take up cycling, then when I had cycled for a bit I got to know more about bikes in general. And I concluded that I should have given the bike purchase a bit more thought.

Cube make great bikes, and I would say that the Peleton is at the bottom end of very good bikes (alu frame with carbon fork). The frame and geometry is great, and the cycling position is not too agressive as you sit slightly upright. But the Shimano Tiagra is at the very bottom of the quality range, bar one (Sora). Plus, in my opinion, there is no need for a triple when a compact double is just as good (even better in my opinion - but see various threads on this subjec).

So if you want my two-pence worth spend a few extra hundred euros and get better than Shimano Tiagra groupset, plus give serious consideration to a 'Compact Double' rather than a Triple.

I think Shimano 2300 comes under Sora.

    So it's:
    2300
    Sora
    Tiagra
    105
    Ultegra
    Ultegra Di2*
    Dura Ace
    Dura Ace Di2

    * some peeps may say that Ultegra Di2 would be better than Dura Ace mechanical so maybe electronic need a separate category.

Thanks very much for the feedback, it is very much appreciated, would I notice the difference in the suggestions you have made? It will be a first bike, mainly to go on leisure spins to lose weight/keep fit while not training so it will be limited to probably weeekend spins. I dont imagine I will be racing or going flat out but I understand what you mean, maybe I will want more once Ive started....

There is no doubt but the Cube Pelton will be more than adequate if you decide to use it for leisure cycling and keeping fit. I did over 2,000 km last summer on my one, and the only problem I had was minor (maybe due to cable stretch but if I wanted to change down one gear I would have to change down two gears before anything happened, and then change up one). I would describe it as a very comfortable ride (cough-cough). It's selling point, in my opinion, is the frame and geometry, slightly let down by the groupset. And the minor shortcomings in the bike will only be evident if you get more serious (and trying to keep up with someone of your own ability but on a carbon bike).

Thanks very much for that, I think I will go with the peloton unless somewhere has a better alternative, I think it will be adequate for what I need at the moment. I know that if I get serious about cycling I may be kicking myself but also cycling may not be for me either, so I guess thats the way im kinda approaching it...

    thanks all

I was also thinking about getting the cube peloton but was advised to spend a bit extra and go for the cube pelton race. It comes with a Shimano ultegra groupset and is an excellent bike for its price. Getting your hands on one could be a problem as most cycling shops have run out of them. I got mine from the below shop which is based in Kilkenny and also got fitted for the bike plus 3 free services. http://www.bikestore.ie/all-road-bikes-1/road-bikes-mens/cube/cube-2012-peloton-race.html

Here is a review of the bike from bike rader

All the best in what ever bike you pick

    Thanks Max,

I have been looking long and hard at the race too but going to kilkenny to get it seems a pain if they had it in Cork I think I would go for it.I want to purchase from a LBS where possible for ease of fitting, service and to support them. I am totally new to cycling and im not sure if I will even notice the difference in groupset, but the niggle is that I will always be looking to upgrade... where do you draw the line :) I was also thinking of a planet X but again going to Athlone. I guess I just want a good bike that will get me started would the two I have selected do the job or am I going really below what I should go for? I have to factor in pedals shoes shorts gloves etc too.... Its almost impossible to make a decision
