i have just ordered just shimano grease and the following tool

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=3785

If i undo the allen bolts and undo the star nut, will i be able to pull the drive side of cranks right out of the frame and give it a good clean.

I want to clean them because when im pedalling you can hear a small grinding creaking noise like their is dirt in it. Especially when in a low gear.

    Jordan.

It's far more likely that it's your bottom bracket that's making the noise than your cranks.

It's probably the superfluous third chain ring thinking that if it makes enough noise that you will take it off and put it in the box where it belongs :pac:

going to purchase a bottom bracket tool and follow this video

once i have the brackets out clean them and regrease them, should this fix it and is this the rite way to go about it ?

The noise could also indicate loose pedals. Remove them, grease the treads and refit. Make sure you put them back on VERY tight.

That video explains the process well, but you should note he isn't servicing the bottom bracket there. He's just taking it out and regreasing the threads it screws into. Those Shimano bottom brackets have sealed bearings, so once they're gone they have to be replaced.
