Went to a bike shop today ( not mentioning names) to enquire about a small problem i had.

He didnt have a clue ! he said i was teaching him things. He had never heard of air shocks before nor had he heard of hydraulic disc brakes.... i actually thought he was joking being it april fools day etc, but he was being 100% honest.

He said bikes and there technology these days, i cant keep up.

He was working on a bike with no suspension, v brakes and plasic drivetrains.....

i said "ok, thanks, have a good day" and walked away SHOCKED!

trick is to buy something first, then you ask. ;)

That's why I have a shed full of chain lube, de-greaser and tyre levers.

Ah it's not like it was in the Auld' days when all ya had to know how to do its use a spanner on a few bolts, tighten a few spokes and fix punctures!

Now ya have to know how to bleed hydraulic disc brakes, service oil and air shocks, fit tubeless tyres... wire up Electronic(Di2) parts... Sounds more like a Motorbike mechanic! :D

:D:D:D He is about 60+ and only work from his own garage!!!. Will have to get advice from a proper LBS. Such a shame my nearest bike shop is miles away and not cycleable...

MAYBE im wrong...... What my nearest decent bike shop from ashbourne?

    is it within cycling distance?

You'll probably find plenty of places that know very little about high-end MTBs or Road Bikes. Plenty of places that just do hack bikes and kids confirmation bikes.

Depending on what you need advice on it might be just as quick to ask here, or if it's something about shocks or hydraulics you could do worse than chat to a local garage. The mechanism are very similar, the MTB is just smaller and simpler. I probably wouldn't ask a motorbike mechanic to actually do the work though as they would be less careful with the amount of force used to attach/remove parts and so forth.

Anyways if your query was how to set the right air pressure for the rear shock on that CUBE you bought, well just look it up yourself online, and buy a shockpump from CRC.... Better to know how to adjust the bike yourself.

If you need the rear shock serviced, and as its a Fox, bring it to OCTuning.ie
