hi, watching day of the dead (1985) heard a cool arpeggiator sequence .wondering how to make it..

the guy who did the sound track is john harrisson...i heard he used a dx7 & prophet v for it. just wondering if i can get this arp sound with a dx7 or similar as i dont think the prophet v had an arpeggiator

the bit im looking for is at 1 hour and 25 seconds

**warning** the scene in question involves an arm being hacked off with blood etc.

    any help appreciated :)

Computer based VST/AU can replicate that if you want to go that route?

NI FM7 can do a lot of the older sounds - The sound itself sounds like it could be made with most things around at the moment :) - sounds like a sync'd wave of some sort.

If looking for hardware then Roland had a lot of old digital synths that you could expand and wouldn't be surprised if that sound is a preset :)

I've got about 5-6 vst here that could do it and get close :)

thanks for the reply, appreciate it. ill look into buying the fm7.i have a prophecy, micron, korg legacy , will give it a go on them first.

there seems to be some sort of portamento ish envelope generator on it as its arpeggiating...any ideas on where to start with it?

    thanks again

Short portamento yep, sometimes people used a pitch envelope to give a bit of character to the attack of the sounds also - *tiny* amounts on the attack and increase the pitch range slowly.

Listening to this again i'm starting to think this is a Juno or Jupiter (Arturia has that as a vst) and think it would be able to make this sound easily - but it's very cpu heavy.

The sound itself could be a main saw sync'd with a square and then muck about with the pulse width of the square to taste.

There could also be a second sound in background, a small filtered saw wave with an ADSR shaped to make a smaller sound (like a teardrop)
