Here are some pictures that I've amassed during the unseasonably Mediterranean like weather we've had of late, of what I consider to be one of Galway's most photogenic sites whenever we do enjoy these rare glimpses of sunshine. Where else but Galway could one take one last sip of a warm tin of beer before queuing for the pleasure of launching oneself into the icy embrace of the Atlantic Ocean in front of the critical gaze of mutually red skinned onlookers?

There's a curious lack of photography of this uniquely Galwegian ritual on google images so I thought I'd ask if anybody else enjoys the same sense of schadenfreude at the expense of these effervescent acrobats, and if so, has anyone else got any worthy shots that they'd care to share?

Here are some shots that I took, for more check out my blogpost at http://www.feargalnorton.com

Please let me know what you think of the pictures and please share any other shots you may have of people leaping off this diving board or any other.

Aye, t'is the same place indeed, was a great shot used in the film, anyone know who the photographer is?

If I had to chose one I'd go with number two. It really captures both the person diving and the people observing. The others are nice also but to me tow has the best cropping and is the most appealing to the eye. It's also the only shot with no people standing at the very bottom and I imagine cropping them out would take away from the height of the platform. Nice work. :)

Ah the Blackrock diving board, it's been photographed lots and posted here on this forum many times, including fantistic shots from the water looking up at the jumpers.

I also like number two too.

What do you mean "anyone know who the photographer is?" Is it not your Photo?

I think he was talking about this photo - from the guard

There is a scene in the film in a bar with a large print of a photograph of blackrock diving board in the background, i was questioning who took that photo. This photo is my own.

I'm actually referring to a different photo that is visible in a bar scene. Anyone any idea who took that one?

I just took down the bluray and had a look for the scene in the film that had the photo, Couldn't find it anywhere. But is this the same place?. Great film. :)

Thanks very much for the critiques, and I agree that shot 2 is probably the best cause it's not quite so cluttered.

I'd also love to know who the photographer of the shot visible in the first frame of this clip is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=aBQRIjMkZ8M#!

Still no sign of anyone elses shots of people diving so here's another one that I like cause of its sparseness.

I like #2 for the simple reason that it looks like a dive rather then a jump.

I'd like to see it cropped to remove the majority of the concrete and the onlookers so that the diver becomes the main element. I get distracted by the mass on the right, much like the image above. ^^^.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

This is in the bar at The Salthill Hotel. The diver is one of the Thorntons who organise the annual "Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim".

Nice picture alright, but it does look like its been processed a fair amount. Heavily photoshopped photos do seem to recieve a lot of adulation on this site alright. I myself prefer unmanipulated images.

To the OP the 1st one IMO is the best and I would've only posted the one pic, it seem's to have been diminished by the others.

Cool photos OP but they look a little more grey and not so much black and white. Except the last one :D

Sorry to resurrect old post but just had someone contact me from Australia looking to purchase a print of that image of Blackrock thats up in the Salthill Hotel that appears in 'The Guard'. Any clues who took it so that I can pass on info?
