Tonight 9pm, BBC Four are showing ‘Madness on Wheels: Rallying's Craziest Years', a documentary from the producer of ‘Grand Prix: The Killer Years' that tracks the rise and rapid downfall of Group B. Link

Balls, missed the start. Given that it's BBC4 if anyone spots a re-run a bump would be must appreciated.

I know all about Balestre in F1 but he was just as bad in Rallying! What a plonker that man was.

Walter Rohrl came across as a really nice guy. My god those crowds in Portugal were mad.

This program brought back so many memories - I remember kids out on the street pretending to be those guy's ( my mate was always Tony Pond as he was mad about the 6r4 ) I was a Toivonen nut

I can imagine 1 in 100 kids in Ireland knows any rally driver now not involved in an X-Box game which is sad.

I think the program over sensationalised it a bit though. In reality 3 spectators, Toivonen, Bettega died and Vatanan was badly injured. Given the poor marshalling and crowd control and huge numbers I think they got off light !

EDIT : what I was trying to say was - it wasn't the cars fault !

Accidentally stumbled across this documentary last night just as it was starting and i'm glad I did. Enjoyed it thorougly from start to finish - such a shame RTE cannot be more like BBC and less like ITV...
