This a sequel to the oringal Ringu Series from Japan.

Ringu (1998) was very first horror movie I brought on VHS, It's scared The Hell out of me, I was actually siting next to the TV, when she came out of TV set!.

SO 13 years after the original Ring movie, Sadako will be returning to the big screen in Sadako 3D. Kadokawa Shoten Company released today the film's full official Japanese trailer, while we got our hands on a photo of a Japanese theater standee. Koji Suzuki, the author of the original "Ring" novel series, originally indicated that the new 3D film will include a scene of Sadako coming out of a television set, similar to the original. He penned the screenplay. Tsutomu Hanabusa directs. It opens in Japan May 12.

"Akane is a high school teacher who hears a rumor from her students that there is actual footage on the Internet of someone's suicide. The footage is said to drive anyone who sees it to also commit suicide. Akane does not believe the rumor at first, but when one of her female students dies after viewing the footage, she and her boyfriend Takanori are fatefully drawn into the horror that has been created by the man who appears in the suicide footage, Kashiwada.

Kashiwada's intention is to create chaos in the world by bringing back Sadako and the power of her curse. Now Akane has to fight against Sadako and Kashiwada to save the lives of herself and Takanori."

For those of you keeping tally, there have been four Japanese films based on Koji Suzuki's popular Ring series including Ringu, Rasen, Ringu 2, and Ringu 0: Birthday. Then there are the little known Japanese TV Series: "Ring: The Final Chapter" (12 Episodes) and it's sequel "Rasen" (13 Episodes). And then there's the Korean remake The Ring Virus alongside the two U.S. remakes.

    Here the trailer

Really looking forward to this!, I hope it's Better Rasen/Spiral which the original "Ringu 2" and Ringu 2 was made later on!

I have See both of those two movies, they are both worth watch a least once , I have yet to see Ringu 0.

I have also seen Korean remake The Ring Virus and US Remake The Ring 1 and 2.

I quite liked Rasen when I watched it, however I found Spiral to to be a by the numbers remake of the original.

Having said that, I love the Ringu movies, I must check out the TV series, hopefully there is an English subtitled version on amazon.

Deffo check out Ringu 0, I think it complements the other movies in the series quite nicely.

I caught Ringu (the original) in the IFI when it came out and loved it for its perfect build-up of suspense and dread. The scene where Sadako came out of the TV worked really well on the big screen (though it wasn't quite as scary when I saw it on video a couple of years later).

I also saw Ringu 2 in the IFI but I didn't like it half as much. I found the story hokey and the direction lacking the effectiveness of the original. After that, I didn't bother with any other sequels, prequels or remakes though nowadays I wouldn't be averse to give them a go on DVD or Netflix.

The makers seem to have put a fair bit of effort into marketing this film. I was intrigued by the Internet search site in the trailer using a familiar looking colour scheme. The search button is really just a link which brings you to a list of user-submitted videos all of which show the same 404 error message shown in the trailer. It would be good to have English subtitles for the trailer.

Ringu is a fantastic horror movie, but thought the sequels were mediocre at best. And alas the Ringu style of (J-)horror has since become all too familiar.

TBH, I'd be happy if they cut down on the need for redundant horror sequels. Curious to see what this is like with the original team on board, but I really don't see the need for another sequel - the first did pretty much all one can with the idea. The lore and all the jazz is uninteresting to me personally.

I get the impression the only reason they're doing this is to have Sadako crawl out of the TV in 3D.
