NCT and high level brake lights

I was just preparing my car for its upcoming NCT on Wednesday and discovered that the high level LED brake light does not work. I removed it and examined it only to discover that water had penetrated and had corroded the circuit boards. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get a replacement unit before Wednesday so I'm wondering if it would be a fail if I brought my car for the NCT without it functioning? All the other lights work fine.

If anyone has an answer it will be much appreciated.

If the car is fitted with one from the factory then it has to work.

Thanks, yes it was installed from new.

If I can't get a replacement in time I'm assuming that I won't be charged €28 to bring it back for a brake light failure, or will I?

No, its a visual re-test(free) so if you can't get one don't panic too much.

Correct. I was failed on mine not working - poor contact was all it was. Had failed for other stuff too, so had to retest anyway.

Old thread, but some related up to date information.

I just had a car going for the NCT and about 4 of the 15 LEDs on the third brake light strip were not working. My mechanic told me that it could fail the test under recent rule changes. I considered removing the fuse for the centre brake light but in the end submitted it as it was.
    It passed with no comments.
