Monolithic Wall

I was speaking to a guy from a TF company. We were talking about the possibilities for a future build. If I do go with TF it will be for factory quality control and speed of build. The guys I was talking to said they have built some TF houses in 7 weeks, from starting on dead block work to client moving in.

I said I wasn't keen on wet trades if they could be avoided, for speed purposes only. I suggested external timber cladding on a monolithic wall build up, but, I would not rule out a plaster finish, and I suspect the planning authorities would prefer a plaster finish. He suggested a general method of some sort of OSB/ply board on the outside with a plaster finish applied.

I know the description of the wall make-up is very loose. Would plastering onto a board throw up the same issue as with plastering in EWI.

    Thanks,
    K

what does your planning permission allow you to do?

others have posted here about single leaf timber frame cladding systems being a serious issue when getting the house insured.

We weren't allowed to have external timber cladding, planning dictated that we had to have a plaster finish.
I wouldn't be keen on having plaster applied to an OSB/Ply board, it would need to be impervious to water or it will rot.
Our build has a Masonite outer with a 20mm batten and Blu-clad board fixed to the battens, then Fibreglass reinforced synthetic render.

    Don't have it yet!!!
The planning authorities are very conservative and restrictive in Northern Ireland, so i am preempting their thoughts.

I did see that thread on boards.ie, i did a bit of investigation and it should not be a problem in NI.

    Thanks,

Have you considered a renderboard rainscreen or block outer leaf on a 50mm cavity outside the timber frame?

Have you considered a renderboard rainscreen
    Are they expensive?
or block outer leaf on a 50mm cavity outside the timber frame?
    increasingly looking like this option.

Can be expensive, there are two very good Timber frame companies in <SNIP> well worth talking to.

Ya I saw their work in Mount Merrion in Dublin, very impressive. They did an I stud with cellulose fill. Does this suit your budget. Are you going close to Passive and very airtight?

That project was a monolithic wall with Render onto the softboard, which I wasn't a fan off but it passed the WUFI hygrothermal analysis for worst case scenario. However I think that is down to the East coasts more benign climate. I'd always go for belt and braces and have some sort of Cavity.

You can see all posts again, right? I never realised that I was subject a stopwatch.

If you take the time and bother to read the dates and times of the edits below the posts you will see that it was done the same day as I stated.
