MBP bigger HDD

    Two related questions.

    I have a 2.4ghz core2duo late 2010 model I think MBP.

    Would I be better off selling this laptop and upgrading to a new MBP base model or upgrading to a bigger HDD? I do not need a faster machine but considering the age and the HDD costs I am just wondering would selling and upgrading be a better deal?


    What would be the best HDD to buy to fit into this MBP? I need a 500GB one at least.

    I put a Western Digital 500g Scorpio Blue into 2008 aluminium Macbook. Works fine for me. I think I paid about 70E for it but I'm sure you can get better deals.
    Again, from what I know about HDD, there is no real guarantee that one brand is 'better' or more reliable than another (the big brands, at least).
    Any hard drive can fail at any time. If it doesn't fail in the first three months then it should last a while.

    Thanks, I have a 1TB WD external and it has given me no problems but as you said any HDD can die at any time.

    70 euro? Not bad at all, so I would be taking a big loss selling this and upgrading as I would also have to spend another 50 euro on upgrading ram if I got a new model.

    If you're never left wanting for speed, just upgrade the hard drive.

    Alternatively - if you never use the disc drive - you can get a caddy that replaces the DVD with a second hard drive. A bit more involved in putting it in though.

    I think I will just get a bigger HDD, as this core2duo is fast enough for what I do with it so upgrading would mean more negatives than positives.
